“got ripped off in more ways than one”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2010

While staying at the hotel I had a beautiful piece of jewelry stolen. While I know the hotel cannot be held responsible, they were total rude in how they handled the situation. Basically said that my claim was a lie, and that I was the first person in the history or of the hotel who ever had anything stolen. Hotel management didn't offer an apology, let alone any form of compensation.

Dear Guest,

We reviewed your comments regarding your stay at THE MARGI. Please note that it is our principle to always value our guests’ feedback, as long though, as they are reasonable and fair.

We would like to kindly remind you that although you informed us 10 days after your departure about your lost jewelry, we immediately conducted a full investigation, but unfortunately your jewelry was not found. As you understand our investigation would be more efficient if you had notified us about your missing item on the day you lost it.

Regarding the management’s response, kindly check your inbox on Monday September 20th as on that day we replied to your e-mail, in which we expressed our sincere apologies regarding the unfortunate incidents.

Once again, we would like to express our sympathy to you & look forward to welcoming you soon at The Margi.

Yours Sincerely,

I stayed in the Margi hotel with my family for 3 incredible days this summer.
The hotel's decor is chic and stylish in a understated, non- garish way. All the reception areas are inviting, breezy and comfortable. Our rooms were elegant, clean-lined and spotlessly clean. The pool area was great for the mornings, the kids would swim and then we would venture to the beach (only 3 minutes walk). What a beautiful beach!
The hotel's pool restaurant has a great atmosphere at night, we would relax at the pool area before leaving the hotel (and it was really hard to leave) as the day beds, gentle music and soft-flowing curtains really draw you in.
All-in-all, it was money well spent and we all have magical Margi memories.

Some Greek friends had recommended staying outside of Athens proper, so we chose the Margi in Vouliagmeni as a starting point for our Greek trip. The hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport (cost ~35 EUROS by taxi), in a quiet coastal neighborhood. A nice beach and good restaurants are a short walk from the Margi, but the friendly staff will arrange a taxi anytime you need one.

The rooms were fairly standard, all with nice balconies, and all very clean and tidy. The best part of the hotel was the beautiful pool area, with great bar and restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the service was happy and attentive.

Also, a great buffet breakfast every morning was a wonderful way to start the day.

Just stayed here the last two nights of our trip to Athens and Vienna to get a feel for the coastal area. After all the reviews and beautiful photos I expected more. It's a smaller place on a quiet street with a short walk to the coast/beach area but be prepared to take a taxi to anywhere else. The lobby and pool area is lovely and you can see they put a lot of emphasis on style. It's all for show and no wonder it's popular with people in Athens because they visit but don't see the rooms. The problem is once you go upstairs, it's dirty and old. The hallway carpets are very worn and dirty with dim lighting trying to hide it. The room felt old and again the carpet was worn out with heavy stains. Everything about the room fixtures seemed 30-40 years old. The thermostat was right out of the 70's, The bathroom still had the soap dish with toothbrush holders mounted on the wall. The tub tile had mold growning on the grout and the tub was so narrow if i turned my foot sideways, it wouldn't lay flat. Which by the way you have to do because the shower head is mounted not on the end but in the middle so it's extremely tight quarters. The pieces of furniture in the room were all mismatched and looked like they were picked up at a second hand shop (and not antiques). They look the part in the public areas but for about $250 US a night, the rooms felt like an old Holiday Inn.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments, as your constructive criticism is very important for us. We would like to inform you that The Margi has been under a gradual renovation program, for the past three years. The first floor that you were staying at, was the last part of our renovation program. We are happy to announce you that the entire floor has been revamped, in order to match the look & feel of the rest of the hotel.

We look forward to welcoming you soon at The Margi.

Yours Sincerely,
Theo Agiostratitis

stayed last night of holiday after staying in athens and syros before flying back to uk.decided to stay at margi instead of getting off ferry and traveling straight to airport and we wanted our last night in greece to be quiet and relaxing.margi is not a typical greek hotel, you could be anywhere in the world in fact but it has style ,is laid back and sunday times supplimentish (is that a word?) breakfast was lovely, the rooms are clean and quite large . on the downside the staff seem very young and seemed to be larking about a lot and the food and drinks are expensive.

The Margi is one of those wonderful hotels whose internet pages do it justice. If anything, the hotel is better than it looks on the net.

Where the Margi shines like a beacon in a dull, predictable world is in its public areas, from the reception to the dining room, the patio, the internal spaces and the pool area. The owner has taken the most painstaking effort to produce a stunning feeling of style, calm and character. There is not one part that has been skimped on - days after you arrive you will discover new nooks and crannies where a subtle light, a mirror or an artefact has been used to enhance the overall effect. The one thing you could never call the Margi is ordinary.

Of particular note is the pool area (but I could go on about all of them). Essentially this is just a rectangular space, but it has been turned into a stunning haven of luxury and style, a place to swim, sit, drink or eat. You could sit in a different area each day for a week and enjoy the new perspective. As darkness falls candles are lit, the pool lights come on, and the overall effect is quite stunning and memorable.

The welcome was delightful and the service excellent. Staff everywhere glided around in smart but informal 'uniforms'. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was also a treat. Dinner delicious, but expensive (no open wines or free water - a shame). As a guest you felt valued and cared for.

Where does the Margi let itself down? Not in many places. The hotel is expensive, perhaps too expensive (but this seems to be a feature of many establishments in Greece, which appear to operate in some parallel universe). I object to paying over 20 euros for the cheapest Greek wine on the menu. The rooms are well designed and decorated, but rather unspecial (given the rest of the hotel), and the air conditioning seemed incapable of dealing completely with the heat outside. Bathrooms were fine, but not air conditioned, and therefore created a damp feeling which could spread into the room itself. But these are small criticisms - I cannot imagine there is anywhere better to stay in Vouliagmeni as long as you can afford the Margi.

Be warned that Vouliagmeni is a beach resort and nothing else. Delightful though it is, there are no shops to speak of and no interesting walks through the woods. The resort services tourism, pure and simple. And, if visiting in order to see the sights of Athens, this is much too far out to have a base.

I was given this hotel as a recommendation for a business trip and decided to stay here based on other trip advisor recommendations. At first impression, I was thoroughly impressed with the hotel. The porters in uniform waited eagerly at the entrance to greet your taxi and take your luggage. The walkway and reception are beautifully decorated with glass jars filled with candles, mood lighting, and comfortable sofas. Although the room was not extremely large, it was very nice with a balconey and the bed was very comfortable. The location is lovely. I ran in the morning along two separate beaches not far from either side of the hotel. I only wish I had brought my swim suit to jump in the sea. Even at 7am there were people in the water and it looked so refreshing! In the evening, candles are lit in the pool area and throughout the lobby and it is very romantic. I wish I was there on vacation with my husband, rather than on business by myself!

I didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on the food, although there were also plenty of other restaurants close by, some even overlooking the sea.

Really my only complaint was the staff. Although they were very friendly on check-in, they seemed to be somewhat cool and aloof after that, and I can't say I asked for much. (Unless directions or ordering a glass of wine at the pool is a lot!)
