“Pretty Good, with certain issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2010

The short review: For the price - a decent value, just outside Athens on the tram line. If the option of a 3.5 rating was available, that is most appropriate. I still gave it a 4 due to the quality of the staff.

The extent of our stay: A week+. Both with a group, and for a few days on our own. We had a chance to experience most of what the hotel & staff can do.

Location: ~7 miles from Athens center city. A very convenient tram ride in 35 - 50 min. Super simple. Also about 1 mile from Glyfada (small resort town). Walk there via the beach path, or take the tram. Restaurants in Glyfada often cater to tourists. However there are some good choices.

Fenix overview: VERY good staff. Multi-lingual. Genuinely helpful and friendly. Athens service can be a bit difficult, but this group (including the maid staff) is very good. We spoke to the manager and complimented him, specifically on the staff. Nice guy. Even offered to buy us a drink. The hotel location is good if you want to be removed from the hassle of Athens and the commercialism of Glyfada. It is not a five star spa, with a destination restaurant and a sugar sand beach. Not at under 100 euros per night.
Rooms: Decent / workable. If you're looking for the top-level accommodations, you need to pay a lot more. This is serviceable, not Hotel Bretagne.
Baths: A bit variable. Ours was fine. Some others had tiny showers.
Beds: Firm is an understatement.
Common areas: Quite good.
Breakfast: Considering that it is included with the room - quite good. Not gourmet. Good+
The Bar: Decent for drinks etc.
The Restaurant (same as the bar): If you are really hungry. The hotel caters to a lot of tourist groups and budget business people. It's basic fare. Not a great value.
The pool: Small but fine. Could be decent for a dip. The surrounding area is nice. However it appears NOT to be a focus, either for the management or the guests.
WiFi: Free, but often slow. Serviceable most times for basics.
Physical plant / AC etc.: Plumbing works. AC - not so much. This is a problem.
Other info: The main road (Poseidonos) is loud. Idiots blasting along on loud motorcycles can be annoying. If you're used to city noise in NYC or London or Paris etc., it's not such a big deal. If not, bring some earplugs. Then it's all fine.
Note: MOST of the other hotels on this side of town are immediately along the very busy main road. The noise problem is FAR from specific to Fenix.

Suggestions for the hotel owners: Look - your staff is doing a very nice job. Stop making things tough for them. Put some money in the AC. Clean up the pool. You might even sell some drinks out there! Spruce up the (few) badly worn bits of the rooms. And for god's sake, buy some mega-boxes of earplugs for the staff to hand out to guests who are light sleepers. Cheap. Would go a long way in good will.

With a few tweaks and a little attention, this could be a very good value. As it stands, 'decent value' and a thumbs up is appropriate.
I have no ties, financial, personal or otherwise, to this property, its owners or staff.

I've been in Fenix hotel two times, the second one was more interesting than the first one because our rooms were better, I think that they have made a free upgrade. We travelled with two friends, the hotel is well located in Glyfada next to the nightlife area, incredible! I want to emphasize the good working of two guys in front desk about a personal problem. They helped us to solve the problem, thank you so much for your attention and for your good recommendations for Santorini island!!!!!

Greetings from Barcelona

This hotel is advertised as a four star hotel....

...please be aware that in comparison to those I have stayed in over in the UK there is no comparison.

The main issue for me was the food (to add to the other issues described in the other reviews). Arrived on the evening for all inclusive meal. Waitress brought out some lute warm cabbage and stale bread...Ithought that was the meal! Then came the second course...what appeared to be dog meat or something of that description with awfully cooked rice! Pudding...what a joy...a measly version of fruit salad! All in all a real disapointment. It was the same meal pretty much each night....the buffet breakfast was also pretty dire!

Price wise this place matches some of the last minute offers you can get...just don't expect more than what you pay for!

Very noisy location, poor plumbing in the bathrooms, horrible internet service, very rude bar/restaurant staff, great front desk staff to answer questions and suggest tours. Rooms were simple but dated, bathrooms small.Cost of 6 minute phone call to airline on room phone- 48 euros! Convenient to tram to get to downtown Athens and nice beaches near Glyfada.

The location might be good and the corporate price I got alright, but I am not keen on spotty sheets and a headrest where you can see how much grease the previous visitor had in his/her hair.

Apparently the hotel has a lot of tourist groups, which like to party until 2 in the morning even on a cold February evening, making it difficult to sleep. Making things worse for me, was the house across the the street where the dogs started barking at 4 in the morning. This happend three days in a row.

Breakfast has an acceptable selection, but go for the tea unless you want tasteless coffee.

Staff not particulary friendly they just get on with their job. Then again, I am not looking to marry them.

Will not stay here next time in Athens.

I stayed here in January for 10 days, I travelled alone, the staff were the most frienliest people I have met, by the time I left i was like one of them, they made me feel at home and all called me by my name and gave me so much info on trips and transportation. The hotel is 2 min from the tram to go into town or Athens and 2 min from bus stops to travel around. Taxis are cheap and they are everyehrtr. The hotel was spotless and anything I needed they were more than helpful to get it for me, The bar is a great place to be at night and the continental breakfast that is included was more than ample. I am going to return in August and this is where I will stay thanks everyone its still cold in Florida Tracy from Keys

I stayed in the Best Western hotel while in Athens working. There is a really nice pool, which is where we spent most of our time off since there was absolutly nothing around the hotel. The ocean is straight across from the hotel, but there isnt really a beach that you can go to. The rooms were so-so, and need to be updated. The staff, especially the front desk people, were incredibly rude! They were unhelpful to everyone in our group and seemed to not want us in their hotel. We asked if we could stay by the pool one night, got permission from one staff member, but then without any warning had the police called by another who was not informed of our permission! We were all very upset by this, and even the policemen didnt understand why they were called there. The next few nights consisted of loud greek weddings, parties thrown by locals and all in all rowdiness by the pool. We were all unable to sleep, but no amount of complaining worked. We tried, but were unable to switch hotels.
The center is an hour metro ride away. This hotel is barely in Athens, and rather should advertise that they are in Glyfada, which is a nice little town close by. The resturant was reluctant to feed so many people at once, since we all finished work at the same time and were of course hungry, and even refused to serve some of us!
I will never stay here again or recommend it to anyone!
