Fairly new hotel with nice facilities. Much more modern/ updated than I had come to expect in Guatemala. Great pool, you can enjoy your breakfast outside or in the dining room overlooking the water.
Our room was spacious with two double beds, tile floor and bathroom with nice shower. Could have easily added another fold away bed in the room.
Breakfast buffet was very nice with good assortment of eggs, sausages, pancakes etc. The staff was attentive although I don't think anyone spoke english so have your phrase book with you if you need it.
Hotel is not actually on the island of Flores -- which had more ambiance, but is also more crowded. Villa del Lago is just across the bridge, right on the water. Back of the hotel looks directly towards the island so it is a nice view. Back deck & pool areas are lovely, be sure to take some time to relax out there. My only complaint: I noticed food crumbs on the stairs & deck area and dishes left lying around the tables for too long, didn't seem like anyone was keeping an eye on the area in the afternoon.
You can catch a little golf cart taxi to the island of Flores easily, but the walk to the island is not long, maybe 15 mins max. We had a nice stroll back to the hotel after dinner on the island.
Given the varying degrees of accomodations in latin america, I would definitely opt to stay here again. The hotel had all the basics covered very well.
