“Grist meal again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012 via mobile

Traveled to McAllen again for business and went to Sante Fe Steak House. Excellent meal, service and atmosphere. When in Texas you need to have a steak. Promise you won't be disappointed here. 2nd visit for me and I was as pleased as my first visit.

“Best steakhouse in McCallen, hands down”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Great service, great food, great atmosphere. This place can hold its own with 5 star restaurants anywhere. The specialty steaks are amazing (try the espresso rubbed filet) all the appetizers are excellent (angels on horseback, sausage stuffed quail, the rellenos) and you gotta try the chipotle grits. My favorite dessert (so far) was the amaretto cheesecake - but all are quite good. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

“High class dining in McAllen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

One of the consistently best restaurabts in the area! Excellent food, service and atmosphere, amazing wine list, try their Angels on Horseback appetizer, any of their specialized seaks, and their Guava Cheesecake, all to die for. Not a mytery as to why thyey've been around for over 25 years, while many other high end restaurants have opened and closed in the area. Still at the top of my list, i highly recommend Santa Fe!

“Great steak”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

We went to the Santa Fe on our recent business trip to McAllen. Hotel recommendation, it's a very nice upper scale resturant , pricey but worth the money . Dinner range from 18-45 per plate includes salad, choice of side and fresh bread. I would highly recommend if you are looking for a great steak !

“Could be excellent, and then again not”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

I have eaten here three times in the last 6 weeks. The first visit clearly warranted five stars, the second four, and last evening an unexpected three. In all three cases the service was excellent to great, but the experience itself has been highly variable.

It's a steakhouse, so order steak. It will be prepared exactly to your liking. The appetizers are original and quite good. If they have roasted garlic sauce on any of their specials insist on it for your steak. Yummy! Meals are a-la-carte, and the tab mounts quickly.

An extensive/expensive wine list awaits. Is must be someone's pride and joy, but difficult to find just a pleasant dinner wine. The cheapest by-the-glass red is $8.00 (and was awful).

For desert don't miss the Creme Brûlée.

This restaurant is in an un-prepossing strip mall, almost hidden in a corner. The locale has three ambiances: a dining room, a bar and outside. I've yet to set foot inside because the outside is so pleasant. All the staff seems to be bilingual, so it is a great place to host your colleagues from Reynosa.

My latest experience: Wine was not to my taste. The steak was perfectly cooked, but served room temperature. The corn/black-bean relish was refrigerator-cold. Asparagus ordered grilled came steamed. I stopped before ordering dessert. I should have know better than to stay when a LARGE party was just sitting-down when I entered the restaurant.
