“DRIVE AWAY FAST:”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

This use to be an ok place to stay. Boy, has it gone downhill. Keep driving if you can and stay somewhere else. The bed was very lumpy and mattress was old innerspring type. Room had a perfume smell that was overpowering. There is NOWHERE to eat a decent meal. Ended up at Subway. We tried to sleep a few hours and left at 6 am. Towels were small and like sandpaper but there was plenty of hot water. Carpet way past it's prime...would never put my bare feet on that floor! Sheets were clean but not sure of the old bedspread.???? Room was way expensive for what it was. Looks like a place that could be rented by the hour. It was quiet...because there were only about 5 rooms rented in the entire place. That should have been our FIRST hint! Lady at desk (which is locked up like a prison) was not remotely helpful. When asked about places for dinner she replied "I don't eat meat so I don't know". Think we paid about $78 but it was only worth about $29.95.

Room Tip: There are no tips for a good room..just keep on driving.

We travel extensively and have encountered the scope of lodging. "Old" IF clean is tolerable. NASTY under any circumstances is NOT. Disgusting sums up the cleanliness of this place. YEARS of filth. Tub did not drain. Stool unustable and literally bucked. Trays for ice bucket/coffee maker grimy. Bedspread thread bare. Microwave with splatter. Furniture/TV were new. To top it off the cost for 2 people/1 small dog in a king room was $87.00. Hope we did not catch anything contagious.

Found this small private motel in my search for a place to stay in George West (about 20 miles north of Mathis).

The oil boom is BOOOOMMMING in the area and many of the main stream motels are booked solid for months at a time with workers.

If you are going to this area, DO NOT wait till the last minute to reserve or you'll be sleeping in your car.

The Lakeside Inn and Suites is an older, small, family owned motel that while it does not look like much, the room was reasonably priced, clean for the most part, and fairly quite.

The rooms could use a sprucing up (or the one I was in could). The bed spread looked like one from La Quinta, but it was clean. The bath was clean but some bleach around the tub would brighten up the grout and get rid of the black spots.

No bugs...that was a good thing. The towels were a bit thin, as was the sheets, however they were clean. The heater worked well as it was cold.

In an age where so many property owners have gone to electronic locks, they still use keys. Real brass, with the triangular plastic tag, key. It was kinda neat. :)

The lady who checked me in was very nice and they had my reservation.

I would stay again if could not find anything in GW.

There is also a good Mexican food place just down the road and they serve breakfast as well.

My wife and I have stayed here many times over the last few years. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Never had any bug problems. They recently added HD TVs. Hotel is family run, friendly and helpful. My only request would be to buy new towels.

Finding large (over an inch long) bugs in the room was nothing compared to the piles of grit in the corners of the bathroom. The so called new rooms are new only in comparison to the original little buildings crumbling into the ground. Having a small fridge is nice, but it would be nicer yet to have a small microwave too. As for a business center, I never found it. When I complained about the bugs, I was told the building was sprayed once a month, and 'this is Texas, we have bugs'. Sadly there aren't many other options in Mathis. If you happen to sleep late, they will wake you up to deliver towels, bedding is not changed during your stay and the towels must have been first purchased a few decades ago. Oh, the new restaurant has already closed down.

Very nice and clean rooms with new lobby area also newly rennovated rooms on the new addition. So why pay more at franchise when you get all at this hotel including High Speed Internet which we never expected. Keep it up. Will come back soon with more rooms.

Bugs all over the motel lobby, and they say the rooms are freshly remodeled, nope not quite. No pool, no Jacuzzi available even after I requested one a Jacuzzi suite. Even if you put a small table and two chairs in a room it doesn't make it a SUITE!

The restaurant was not very clean, the server was rude and slow. One of our group asked for coffee as we sat down it was finely brought to the table after 6 request and we were half way done, needless to say he did not order any thing else.... Now the rolls were great but they brought them as we were finishing our meal.... Oh well we know better for next time..
