“Marfa's best ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

AMONG the best meals I've had in a restaurant - just a matter of how you say it. Cost some shekels but a very good dining experience. It's where you take your Lady unless you want to drive a very long way !!! We live in Marfa.

“Slam Dunk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

The best place for dinner in Marfa - no questions. A really fine wine menu, great cocktails, and a really strong menu. make reservations on the weekend, even in February!

“***** perfection without fuss.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2014

no mistakes. modest dining area with open galley kitchen; tables are small but they did the job.
we were seated near the door-- so we watched the arrivals, their stop at the bar for air-kissing or genuine smoochies; pleasant window into the Marfa art/middle class community socializing.
I understand the owners did this before, in Manhattan, and earned a Michein star. I would have given them a big gold Texas star for my dessert--a date souffle that must be ordered at the onset of the meal. not really expensive

“Toshi's Date Pudding!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

Everything is expensive in the desert: the surprise here is getting food this good (and this consistently good) at all. Yes, it's expensive, and yes, the portions are a bit small, but I dined here several times recently and the food was very good to exceptional every time. The most reliably excellent culinary venue in Marfa. And Toshi's date pudding really is fantastic.

“Perfect Except...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

Food - fabulous! Waiter - attentive, friendly and knowledgeable! Overall ambiance - excellent! Problem.....diners packed too closely together. The indoor dining room is narrow with long bench seating down each wall, then small tables, then chairs in the middle of the room...forming the aisle. Space between tables...about 18 inches. Our table for 2 was flanked by 2 couples on my right and 1 couple on my left making us feel like we were seated at a table for 8....with 6 strangers. My wife and I felt we could not privately converse without "sharing" with the other six. And the 4 to my right were loudly discussing politics expressing views with which we did not agree. This certainly detracted from our experience. Should we try Cochineal again, it will be in warmer weather when they open their dining patio...and we can spread out a little.
