“Good food, But...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2008

The cajun food at Jazz is awesome and we would love to go there all the time, but one thing has stopped us. Smoke. The restaurant meets the requirements to be a "sports bar", so it allows smoking. Now you may be saying, aw this person is just intolerant, it wouldn't bother me. Trust me, it would. The seating area is probably 40' x 40' and the smoke just gets wafted around all over. Kinda hard to taste fish when all you can smell is cigarettte smoke...It is really a shame.

“Great Cajun food ... BUT”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2007

[Trip Advisor: this is new restaurant entry for Jazz in Lubbock: [--]]

Whenever traveling to Lubbock for business, my co-workers and I always find time to hit Jazz - a strangely outstanding Cajun find in Lubbock. It's in a strip mall across from the Texas Tech campus and United Spirit Arena, but still maintains a great college atmosphere. We've always gone there as a lunch or early dinner spot.

Last weekend while out with friends who are Tech grads out to see the football game, we went to Jazz about 10PM on a Friday before game night. It was wall-to-wall people, buzzing about the football game and the place oozed with the greatness of a college dive with great food and cold beer. Good mix of college students and alumni/older crowd. Smoking is allowed - and if there is a non-smoking section, I've never been made aware of it in all the years of going. So we're there on a Friday night before a Tech football game and the food was again outstanding!!

When 11PM was approaching, a couple of tables by the door were cleared and a band started setting up. People started paying tabs and slowly trickling out. By the time the band started playing at 11, all but the band's family and friends were left except for us. Since our table conversation was abruptly halted by the band, we followed shortly after. It was amazing to see how a live band could completely kill the atmosphere of that place. And for them it's a bragging point - that they have live music. But, on this night, it was light a light to roaches - scattering the crowd out of the door. Management should second-guess the wisdom to pay a band to come in and chase out all that business.

Still - I'll keep coming back for the outstanding Cajun food.
