Description: Real Mexican food is a feast for the senses. From colorful peppers to the sounds of sizzling fajitas all the way to that incredible flavor. Each mouthful is just as much a result of the freshest ingredients as it is a result of the chef's expertise. Abuelo's offers diners the opportunity to experience real Mexican food, combining authentic, made from scratch classic dishes with the rich, subtle flavors of coastal and interior Mexican cuisine. Our executive Chef Luis Sanchez has spent decades perfecting our menu, and we boast a wide selection of wood-grilled fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, chile rellenos or Abuelo's unique House Specialties (depending on your location). To compliment your meal, our expert bartenders are masters at crafting signature favorites, including a wide variety of margaritas and swirls. Whatever the occasion, we'll stop at nothing to make your time at Abuelo's a memorable dining experience.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This has always been one of our favorites and still is. As previous reviewers have stated, it isn't what it used to be but, in my opinion is still very good. Great atmosphere. Very clean. Good food.

We eat at Abuelos every time we are in a city that has one. The menu has so many wonderful choices! The food and service is always excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant !

“Overpriced and average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

I had been away from Abuelo's for dinner for quite some time - despite numerous visits to the courtyard for drinks with friends - until I recommended it to two high school friends who happened to be visiting Lubbock. I am sad to say that I had egg on my face after the poor service, loud atmosphere and too big menu of incredibly average and overpriced food. Specifically, the waitress was not helpful for the two newbies' inquiries about the menu, didn't listen when taking our orders, kept looking at another server as if she was supposed to be mentoring him, made errors on our drinks, dinners and failed to bring an ordered appetizer. She said she wouldn't charge us for it. Duh? All the food was just plain average. I hope management takes notice because Abuelo's has really, really fallen down.

“Used to be our favorite.......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

But no longer. No-one seems to care if you are pleased with your meal or not. Has gone from a great place to a blah place! Needs some customer "service" tips to get back to where they used to be!
The chicken fajitas were AWFUL! Two flour tortillas that had been grilled til they were STIFF; huge rings of grilled onions, three small strips of bell pepper, not cooked enough chicken breast --- that had been previously cooked! Just not a pleasant day yesterday for eating at Abuelos!

“Why are people enamored with this place?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

It is ok but the food is just average. The service is just average. The prices are high for what you get. It is always crowded so you have to wait. I don't like the parking lot. The best part is if they have free live music and you can sit on patio where no one will wait on you so you don't have to buy the overpriced drinks.
