“Not perfect but not bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

We stayed 4 nights during the 2nd week of June. Overall the place isn't bad but there were a few issues. We arrived at 2:30 pm to an empty parking lot and empty lobby save the front desk staff. The girl at the front desk was pleasant enough but not exactly friendly. She said we would have to wait about 30 mins. A few minutes later 3 other car loads pull in. We can all check in but have to wait. The other guests rec'd their rooms before we did but they had 2 queen beds and we were waiting on a king. We did get our room about 3:15 pm or so. The other desk staff members were friendlier and a tad more helpful.

My husband's biggest complaint was the lack of consistent hot water for the shower. We only had hot water the first night and next morning. After that, it was lukewarm to warm for the rest of the week. I prefer really hot showers but considering temps were over 100 degrees all week, warm was OK with me but not for my husband. The housekeeping staff were nice and the room's general cleanliness was fine. I did notice they failed to vacuum next to my side of the bed (few crumbs from a midnight snack) one day but nothing to complain about. (One day something sticky was spilled in the elevator. It stayed sticky for a couple of days but was mopped clean before I could mention it to the staff). The tub in our room had a lot of rust along the bottom on both ends. Not a big deal but it looked like an ongoing problem because there was white caulking on top of the rust. Just seems like if you're going to the trouble to caulk, you'd try to get rid of the rust first. There was one cracked tile and one loose tile along the bottom of the bathroom wall and there were a couple of uneven floor tiles. The toilet handle worked although I thought it might fall off at any time. The bath looked well cleaned even if maintenance lacked a little. We had plenty of clean towels but on Saturday morning I was awakened by the housekeeping staff asking for my dirty towels. But when I asked for replacements, I was told the housekeepers cleaning the rooms would be by shortly. No big deal, I did have one clean towel left but if you're going to ask for the dirty towel, it would have been nice to offer a replacement at that time.

Breakfast was hit or miss but there was usually plenty of good tasting coffee. There was some sort of softball tournament going on so a couple of mornings the breakfast offerings were deleted by 8 or so. The hotel offered "scrambled eggs", meaning the pasturized kind, but they weren't bad and with the hot biscuit they were pretty good. Spouse said sausage wasn't too bad either. The lady managing the breakfast line was nice and did her best to keep things clean.

The bed was comfortable, had the usual 5 pillows for a king, and the linen wasn't frayed or worn. The comforter looked and smelled clean. The hotel has an inhouse laundry so linen seemed clean and fresh. There was a tear in the carpet under the desk and a non working floor lamp to go along with the lacking maintenance.

Overall, the stay was pleasant enough. Clean bed, cold a/c (definitely needed that week), and we didn't hear our next door neighbors at all except when they were in the hall. Wouldn't say things were perfect but not bad.

Our room was clean and quiet. Wireless internet worked fine. Front desk was very helpful on checkin. Breakfast was pretty standard fare...nothing outstanding. Not many places to eat in the immediate area, and since the street is one-way interstate frontage road, it takes some planning to get back when you leave to eat. The parking spaces seem very narrow. The exercise room is on the second floor.

We had 2 small children and 2 teenagers. When traveling we always stay at a choice hotel. The breakfast was great as always. The smaller kids had fun at the pool. The teens loved the free wi-fi for all their gadgets-- laptops, ipods, cell phones, ipads, etc. The main reason we stay here is for the breakfast, heated indoor pool, and free wi-fi. I would highly recommend this hotel to any one. We stayed in the suite and the housekeepers did a great job of cleaning our rooms all 3 days we were there. As always our stay here was great!!! The staff was very nice and anything we requested was immediately supplied.

We stayed 1 night in the comfort suites on 1-27 in Lubbock. We were able to secure the room with points, I believe the rate would have been around $90. a night and that would have been overpriced for what you get.

The hotel is a bit tired and so is the staff. The young lady checking us in was grumpy, but not unpleasent. The room is a decent size, clean, and the AC worked well. The bathroom could have used some attention - missing caulking and the toilet handle needed jiggling to stop flushing. The breakfast is the usual fare of hard boiled eggs, toasts, danish, cold cereals biscuit, sausages, a waffle maker, juices, coffees. The lady attending it had the sniffles, which was off-putting.

We did not use the indoor pool but the families who were suing it seemed to enjoy it very much, and the staff diligently moped up their trails in the hallway. The parking lot is well-lit, and the location is very good for highway access.

I would say if you could get the room at a discounted rate you won't be disappointed. I would use my points there again.

I stayed two nights here and it was a pleasure. So much so that I was shocked to see a low rating on this website. I loved the beds and even asked what mattresses they use at the front desk. The rooms where really clean and inexpensive. The Staff was a joy to deal with and the front desk lady was super sweet. It all comes down to I will be staying again any time I am in Lubbock Texas.

I cannot believe other reviewers praise for this place. It is an old property with a lobby facelift. The rooms have stained, and shredding carpet, and the cheapest awful furniture you can ever look at. Although it is 100% non-smoking, the cleaning products used smell like they are covering up something???? And they use LOTS of it! It permeates everything, the towels, bedding, your clothes and your hair. It gives you a headache smelling it.
The beds are pretty good, but the sheets are so thin you could see through them. The housekeeping staff are friendly, but wow, are they noisy. Shouting at each other from either end of the hall, talking loudly, banging and slamming.
Overall it is not in a good location, and there are many other choices in this price range. I travel about 100 days a year, and this place is near the bottom. I would never stay here again.
