I've lodged at some very expensive resorts and hotels, but I can't remember a better place to stay than the D'Rose. Why? There are many reasons, but the main one is the owner - Deb Rose. Deb puts her personal touch into everything here. My room (#3) used to be a parking spot when this was a travel lodge (remember those?). But it became a really nice room with a superb brick partition arch inside that makes it feel like a suite. A soft yet supportive bed with great pillows, an air conditioner that will cool you off quick when put on hi or quiet when put on low so it didn't disturb my sleep. Hot water took some time to get there, but once it got hot, it was unlimited with good pressure. There's a nice large table with good chairs, a box of dominos and a deck of cards if you want to relax with friends. Also, a dorm sized refrigerator and a 12 cup coffeemaker with all the fixin's. No styrofoam cups - there are real coffee mugs. In the bathroom, there is just enough space for a shower and head and nothing else. But that's enough and in the shower, there are 4 types of liquid soaps. Don't worry if you forget your hair dryer - one's in the room. Stone floors give the room a rustic flavor. There is no TV or telephone - it's heaven!!!! Out frtont, a large porch is covered and a little sunken so that you have a garden between you and the rustic split wood railing that separates you from the motorcycle parking/staging area. On the porch are plenty of comfortable seats so you can sit and visit with your fellow riders. The property owned cats are incredibly friendly and will visit with you.
The pavillion has a lot of picnic tables, is covered and has electricity and lights. It's a great place to sit outside and share stories. There are also bbq grills if you want to cook something up.
You can park your motorcycle near the room. If you trailer your bike in, there is a special parking area for your car and trailer.
This is just a place to sleep. It has no restaurant or food of any kind, save the food you bring with you. However, there are places to eat within walking distance. Deb will help you with directions and reservations, too.
I loved the "motorcycle only" atmosphere. No worries about cages (cars) or kids messing with them. Deb visits with the groups that stay at the D'Rose and makes you feel welcome into her "home" and what she says is her dream job. It's obvious she loves what she does and it shows. This place is unique and if you go to the hill country and don't stay here, you will have missed one of the best parts of visiting. Plus, Leakey is in the middle of the best motorcycling roads in Texas. We could leave in a group and return easily without traffic problems as we used to in Kerrville. So, I can't say enough good things about the D'Rose. You NEED to stay here.
