“Wonderful escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Frio Springs Lodge was just so much better than any pictures can describe. But I'll try. And in a few words say that we stayed in cabin #6, it was adorable, the perfect size for my fiancé and I to rest and relax in for 2 days. We arrived late Sunday night and we're able to walk right into our cabin. The amount of stars in the sky is amazing. No light pollution here. We were intrigued by the sound of a waterfall and looked forward to the daylight in the morning to find out just where exactly we were. We awoke Monday morning and were pleasantly surprised and delighted to see our view. Over the next few days we enjoyed the space. Hiking at the very nearby Garner state park during the day and sipping wine by the campfire on our patio by night. Perfect. Quiet. Relaxing. We will be back!!

We stayed with another couple in 2 bed 2 bath lodge, number 3 to be exact. It was marvelous. We could see the river from our patio, deer a plenty and a great fire pit. Comfortable beds and extremely clean. Phil at the front was kind and courteous. He even took a message from our pet sitter about our cat and hurried over to relay the message as soon as we returned. Will stay here again and again.

We had stayed at Frio Springs several years before and remembered it a little better than it was this time. Location was good (#3 Pear Tree) for our purposes as we spent most of our days elsewhere on the river. Unit was not particularly clean, and it smelled. A/C unit was so loud when it turned on that it literally made us jump. Patio was nice to have and private enough.

We returned to Frio Springs Lodges this year with friends. We stayed in the Ranch House. We had 3 couples, so we each had our own bath. There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds, one with a queen and 2 twins, and one with 2 twins. Two of the bedrooms have attached baths and two share a hall bath. The house is very roomy, with a large living room and large kitchen with separate dining area. It is older and not nearly as nice as the cabin we stayed in last year. A nice surprise was the beautiful pool that was added this year. Just as last year, Phillip went out of his way to help us any way he could. We will definitely return, but will rent 2 cabins instead of the ranch house next time.

Spent a night there recently on a trip to ride the Twisted Sisters. We were there during the week, so it was very quiet and peaceful. The accommodations are nice and the unit we were in had been redone recently. Service was great, location was great - be sure to get one of their cabins on the creek. I understand they are pretty popular on weekends, so you might want to book ahead of time.

We recently spent 3 nights in cabin 9 which faces the river. The 2-bedroom, 2-bath cabin was clean, and had just about everything we needed. We rode our motorcycles during the day then spent the late afternoons and evenings on the back porch watching the birds and deer. It was very tranquil and quiet and a wonderful respite from city life. There is no dishwasher so you might want to bring paperplates. We certainly recommend cabin 9 but bring paper cups for drinks and for wine (the glasses that are provided are heavy plastic and are pretty bad, and there aren't any wine glasses). Although the ceiling fan in one bedroom wasn't working, the manager brought us a box fan -- plus, the cabin has central air conditioning. There is no housekeeping during your stay, but tiny shampoos and soap, and dish soap are provided. Definitely get one of the cabins that are on the river; the non-river cabins just don't seem to be very appealing and you can't even see the river.

Room Tip: Get a room right on the river.

My husband and I just got back from here. We rented cabin #6 ( they call it the honeymoon cabin). It is small, but very cozy. My opinion it is the best location. You walk down behind the cabin to the river. Great place to rest and relax. Each cabin has their own outside sitting area with a fire pit . Phillip was Great at helping with anything we made have needed and very friendly.
