“Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Very very large castle which the family still occupy. Vast land around and beautiful lake. Gardens, playpark, water fountains, house and garden tours, farmshop and much more. We had a lovely day out here, even though it was cold, walking around kept us warm, very pleasant day.

“Brideshead Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

If you remember the show Brideshead Revisited this is the place as well as many TV shows and films. The home is beautiful and the grounds a good stroll. Hope for a sunny day and check your geneology to see if you are related to the Howard family who live here!

“Great visit-really enjoyed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Had family over from Oz, where should we take them, well our first choice did'nt let us down. We had a very enjoyable day out in the grounds and then the Big House. Won't bore you with all the details except to say, if you like a bit of history and culture then if you have not been before, then GO!. The house staff were very friendly and knowledgeable which made for a better visit, you must also visit the farm shop, we bought some very good value meats that we could freeze.

“Very impressed by Castle Howard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

Been to Castle Howard many times but this is the first time the house has been open, I found the house particularly impressive. It very much felt like a home rather than an unoccupied exhibit. Of particular interest was the rebuilding following the fire in 1941 and the links to film and TV.
The grounds are very impressive although at this time of year there's nothing to see in the walled garden.
There's a tractor 'train' to link the main parts of the site, also a good adventure playground for the kids.
A good selection of shops, including a very good farm shop and garden centre, they seemed to be quite reasonably priced. Also found the food served in the on-site cafes and restaurants to be very good and reasonably priced.

“Beautiful Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

visited on a nice day so enjoyed the gardens and grounds. Had lunch there very nice but very expensive. Staff friendly and efficient. Also had a coffee later down near the lake. The little train that ferries you about is free but a a bit crowded at times. Would love to go again maybe at Christmas to see the house all dressed up. The shops on site are also very nice for a browse or something special.
