We have just returned (May, 2006) from a week at The Shores at Lake Travis. My husband and I enjoyed the resort very much. It is not a place with a lot of planned activities but that was what we were looking for. The unit we were in was #3008. The furnishings were rustic as in handmade looking dining table, chairs, tv stand, coffee and end tables as well as the night stands in the bedrooms. Someone has taken the time to decorate the condo with wall hangings, silk flowers, etc. The master bedroom had a nice, firm Queen sized bed with an attached bathroom which had a jacuzzi tub. The second bedroom had firm Twin beds that were quite comfortable. It also had access to the second bathroom from inside the bedroom which was a plus for the people staying in that room. The sofa and loveseat were very comfortable as well and there were TVs in both the living room and master bedroom.
There were deer everywhere! In the mornings we would have our coffee looking out at the deer wandering around grazing on the grass and plants by our patio. A unique thing to watch up close.
The swimming pool was clean and situated on a hillside with the lake in the background through the trees. There was a bathroom, drink machine and a covered patio beside the pool so you could get out of the sun if you wanted to. There were also shuffleboard courts and tennis courts available.
There was a restaurant very close to the condos called Cabo Lago, which has live music on Saturday nights on their patio overlooking the lake. You can also rent boats and/or jet skis from a place beside the restaurant. There was another unusual restaurant about 8 miles from the condos in a little community called Point Venture. It is the community's marina restaurant and is called Shades. Shades is on a floating pier in Lake Travis and there are huge catfish that swim up "begging for a handout" while you are dining. Apparently they get quite a few handouts because some of them were around 4 - 5 feet in length! A very interesting outing!
Lake Travis itself is quite picturesque. One side of the lake slopes gently down to the water and the other side has beautiful rock cliffs. We went swimming in the lake and found the water to be very clean and clear. It was a wonderful place to relax and just be.
