“Beautiful park, but internet access is horrible”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

No doubt about it, BLR is a first class RV park. All paved roads and sites, manicured lawn, nicely treed. Really a nice place to walk around after a long day on the road. But the wifi system is very poor which is a problem because Verizon service is also poor in this area so our aircard does not work well. Even checking email is painfully slow. We stayed here one night in a motorhome.

Buckhorn Lake Resort is just about one of the best campgrounds we've found in Texas, to date. It's beautiful grounds, immaculate facilities and spacious sites are only part of the picture. From the minute you arrive, you'll find the friendly staff willing to assist in any way possible to make your stay a good one. They have a spacious dog run for those who travel with a pet and two swimming pools for those hot summer days. Of course, there's plenty to do in the surrounding area for entertainment. Buckhorn easily accommodated our rally group of over 75 rigs and 150 people. At our closing night dinner, the whole Buckhorn family.....owners and family members alike pitched in to prepare and skillfully serve one of the best brisket dinners we've ever tasted. Whether you visit Buckhorn as part of a rally or just make it a destination on your own, you will find a top notch place to stay!

The ONLY reason I am not giving this a 5 star is because we had a lot of highway noise that kept us awake but could very well have been our assigned spot and we arrived late. We were very impressed by how immaculate this resort was. Grass yards that are impeccable, a lighted hook-up area and concrete pad picnic table area. We attended a rally and the catered dinner was by the resort itself and it was delicious. The bathrooms are clean and nice, the staff could not have been
Nicer and so much information, brochures, etc. are given to you highlighting all the local things to see and do. The price is good and the wifi is great!

Room Tip: The farther you can get from the highway, the more sleep you will get.

One of the better RV parks we've stayed in for level pads, well-maintained sites. Community facilities are excellent - very nice kitchen, great stage and meeting hall. Pools are clean and well-maintained. Location is close to I-10 and the freeway noise is constant - pretty loud with lots of trucks - need a loud fan or the A/C on to sleep at night. Internet is usually available, although not fast - the whole area lacks 4G coverage so our Verizon MiFi unit isn't fast either. We can get decent cell signal for calls & texts. Not a large number of pull-through spots and several back-in sites appear to be quite short - call to make sure your rig will fit if they are very busy. Put this park a mile or two from the interstate and up the speed of the internet and it's close to a 10, but with those considerations it rates only an 8 or 9.

Room Tip: If you don't have children with you, try the "executive area" - furthest from the free...

My wife, myself and our two granddaughters stayed in Cottage C the week of June 11th through June 14th. We were told check in was at 3:00 pm, but we could check in around noonish. We loved the layout of the cottage. We especially liked the patio on the back overlooking a pond with fish swimming around. When we arrived the central air was set on 71 degrees and very comfortable. The resort is near IH 10, but we never heard any traffic sounds at all. If you stay on RR 1338 west instead of going IH 10 to Kerrville it is just 4 miles to many eating places and Walmart.

Each time we visited the office/store the employees were very polite and cordial. Our granddaughter liked the Buckhorn pool better than the pool where the conference was held. We will gladly return at our next opportunity.

We called and made reservations to this RV park based on internet ratings. We knew we would arrive late (9-10PM) and wondered what check in would be like. The entry is West Texas in every way, right down to the wooden windmill in the circle. Check in was easy and fast (reservations left in box at the reception hall). Security personnel/camp personnel were riding around in golf carts and met us at the reception area. They showed us to the site and helped us back in. Pull through, pull in and back-up sites were available. We did not see much that night. Hooks ups at night can be a thrilling experience, however, the lighted posts and dim area lights helped to make it go easy. The next day we visited the camp store which was well stocked (including beer and wine). Activities going on Saturday nights (this saturday was Taco Night with live western entertainment) in the barn. A very nice, very large dog play area has been added to the camp. Campers were good about picking up after their pets. The water sites were beautiful and walking by the water at night with the lighted bridges and cool breeze was wonderful. This is a definite re-stay for us! Cabins available for extra guests. Must stay for RVers!

Room Tip: This is a bring-your-own RV camp! There are also small, nice, cabins for rent.

We booked a cottage (we were on a waiting list) for the Redneck Riviera Festival with Thomas Michael Riley and other great Texas musicians. Checked in after 3:00 and weren't sure what to expect, as this is an RV resort... Nice cottage with a back porch overlooking a creek - watched fish and relaxed in privacy. Their facilities are outstanding! From the indoor venue where the concerts were held to the pools, creeks, paths, and overall layout- this is a first class RV resort. We no longer own an RV- but if we did, this would be on top of our list. Large pull-thru spaces, picnic tables and parking for each. Laundry facilities, dining, pools, tennis, basketball, playgrounds, pet friendly, etc.... and the management is VERY friendly and the owners are working right alongside employees... I give this place an E for Effort! My only :( was that the queen bed is really, really hard. Overall experience was excellent. I can see these little cottages (three only) being an excellent resource for visiting friends and families of RV'ers. Kitchenettes, living area, WiFi, TV's and sleeping arrangements for four.... well planned.

Room Tip: Book WAY in advance if you want a cottage... there are only three. Plenty of RV spaces, though, and...
