Owner description: The Museum of Western Art used to be the Cowboy Artist Museum. Open daily 10:00 am to 4:00 pm except Sunday and Monday, is a short drive from downtown Kerrville. The grounds are beautiful and a winding drive leads you to the entrance way, where larger than life style realistic western bronzes beckon you inside the museum. There are several galleries inside (allow 90 minutes to go through),and artwork by craftsmen and women who devote their artistic career to preserving the legends of the West are captivating and impressive. In addition , if you have young children (probably best under 12 years),the Journey West Children's Gallery, a hands-on interpretive section of the old west, will be certain to enthrall and entertain. A small gift shop offers up prints and original art done by local artists along with other western memorabilia. In addition there are several special art sales and exhibitions throughout the year. The Museum of Western Art is proud to receive the 2014 Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.

“A MUST SEE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Even if Art doesn't float your boat, the building is neat, the old stagecoaches, saddles and guns are worth a look.

“Gorgeous venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

This is a really interesting place. The mesquite floors and the architecture of the building are worth the admission price. When we were there, only one other couple was in the museum.

The collection is interesting, though not spectacular. The docent was anxious to share lots of information about both the building and the art. There is a really nice children's area for early elementary school-aged children.

We were able to see the entire collection in about 20 minutes--I can't remember the admission price, but just be aware that this is probably not an afternoon-long activity.

“Love the Western Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

The museum is beautiful and the western art was wonderful. The volunteer who was there was very interesting and filled us in on the history of the area. It made for a very enjoyable afternoon. I would highly recommend seeing this one.

“Wonderful facility!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

It is a wonderful facility, constucted uniquely and beautifully. The staff is friendly and fairly knowedgeable about the construction of the building and the art it holds. There are some fabulous works of art hung in well lit and lovely rooms. As the museum relies on donations to aquire new art and the CAA show is no longer held there, using the CAA as it's selling point seems a little outdated. Having only CAA artists in the Museum would seem to limit the aquisition of new and exciting art and without that growth, a repeat visit would not top my list. A truly lovely setting to have great western art and well worth the visit.
