“German cuisine in the country”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

Located on highway 190 in Kempner Texas, The Brick Oven specializes in German food.
It's a very plain looking building and if you blink you'll miss it. - if you are coming from Copperas Cove, it's the second building on the right past the Dollar General store.
No frills here, but the food is good and reasonably priced and the staff attentive.
The best item on the menu is the Hot Reuben Sandwich with fries - about 7 bucks plus drink.
They have a deli case and pastry case with all of the pastries baked on site. They have the best cinnamon rolls (about 8 inches in diameter) I have ever had and the home made peanut butter cookies rock (they sell out fast, get there around 9 am).
Home made Strudel, Black Forest and German Chocolate cakes are rich and are a must for desert.

They have a seperate dining area for parties and large gatherings.

PRO - Good german food and pleanty of it - you will not leave hungry. A pastry counter that is to die for. Very laid back atmosphere (casual).

CON - Hidden in plain sight, you have to look for it. Train tracks about a 100 feet away with train's at half hour intervals. Staff is attentive but can get overwhelmed during peak time (11:00 am to 01:00 pm ). The atmosphere is more like a diner than a german restaurant.

With that said, I would recommend stopping by and getting an awesome Reuben Sandwich.

Hours of operation:
9:00 am to 9:00 pm Tuesday thru Saturday
Closed Sunday and Monday

Great German food at reasonable prices. Every time I come to the area I make a point of having at least one dinner here.
