We were recommended by a local to visit Landry's on our trip to the area. We had some reservations based on the reviews here but decided to give it a go.
The service was very good. Our waiter was very nice, informative and attentive to our needs. The atmosphere was fun, they have a large dining room, large outdoor patio and a great view of the bay.
I ordered the clam chowder and my wife ordered the stuffed mushrooms to start. The chowder was good (packed with bacon, New England style) but didn't blow me away. I don't like mushrooms but I did try the stuffing on her appy and it was VERY tasty. Creamy and rich, it was dangerous as it could very well fill up before the main dishes arrived.
Tossed salad was provided with each entree which was a first on our trip to Texas (my wife was very happy to see greens) but don't expect anything above the standard offering of other restaurants although the house sauce was tasty.
I ordered one of the specials; parmesan crusted tilapia over a bed of noodles and blackened shrimp and topped with spinach and pico de galo. The portion was huge packed with creamy sauce. The taste was delicious without being overbearing, the tilapia and shrimp were great as was the spinach topping. I couldn't finish simply because of the size of the dish. My wife ordered the cedar planked salmon and it smelled delicious upon arrival. It was very well cooked and tasted great (according to her...I usually have a taste of her meal but this time I just had way too much food).
I really enjoyed Landry's, their food and hospitality. The manager on duty even did her rounds coming to each table asking how everything was.
