Owner description: Neolithic Britons (or nature-worshiping Druids or space aliens, depending on who you listen to) began assembling Stonehenge on the plains of Salisbury, England more than 5000 years ago. Its original purpose is still under debate ... but there is no mystery (or purpose, really) behind the Texas Hill Country's version. Stonehenge II was created as an art project by the late Al Shepperd, a Hill Country Arts Foundation patron, and his neighbor Doug Hill more than 20 years ago on Shepperd's land in nearby Hunt, Texas. Stonehenge II It took nine months to build and is 90 percent the height and 60 percent the width as the original. Giving free range to his fanciful notion, Shepperd added two 13-foot Easter Island head replicas for good measure. After Shepperd's death, the megalithic circle along with its Easter Island sidekicks needed a new home. In an effort to preserve this true Texas landmark, the sculptures were relocated stone-by-stone to their final resting place beside the Guadalupe River on the campus of the Hill Country Arts Foundation.

“Fun Photo Op”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

Enroute back to San Antonio we got off Rt 10 to take a break at Stonehenge...well, the local recreation that is. We had fun posing for pics then went inside playhouse to used their Rest Room. There we were met by friendly staff who are very proud of their exhibit...and their local productions. Make sure to view their outside theater--soon to be host of the Texas Arts Festival in October. The grounds are beautifully kept. Also be sure to enjoy the outside sculptures near their art building. Great place to stop, have fun and take a much needed break from a long drive.

“A Nice Surprise in Ingram, Texas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Located at the Hill Country Arts Foundation in Ingram, Texas, Stonehenge II, with two Easter Island statues as well, was a surprising discovery. A short drive out of Kerrville will bring you to a great spot on the river where you can see art galleries, live plays, and great views of the river. Bring your camera, you'll take lots of pictures!

“Drive by only”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2014

Interesting to see, as a drive by. There is a art gallery there also. Not a place to drive to for a morning. The gallery is free, people there were very nice.

This mini-Stoneghenge is fun. Pictures can be taken in such a way that people will think one has visited the original.

“Attraction location is wrong”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2014

The address/coordinates listed is inside a Home Depot. Another website states the attraction moved to Ingram, TX.
"Relocated to the grounds of the Hill Country Arts Foundation. I-10 exit south into Kerrville. Turn right when you get to Hwy 27/Main St. Take Hwy 27 to Ingram (about 5 miles). At the second light in Ingram go straight through the intersection toward Hunt, which will put you on Hwy 39 (Hwy 27 will angle off to the right toward Mountain Home). After the light, watch for the Johnson Creek Bridge; immediately after the bridge you will see the sign for the Hill Country Arts Foundation on the left."
