“Gem of 'Q Joint in Hurst TX"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2012

Contrary to other reviewers, good brisket is not easy to find, and bad brisket makes for bad BBQ. Danny D's does some serious-good brisket. We use them for parties and celebrations and the brisket always gets complimented. The meat is dry smoked, comes out moist and tender, and their BBQ sauce is an excellent complement to the food. Danny D's covers the rest of the meats and has good sides, too (like their fried okra). The all you can eat ribs (on Thurs) is a great value, and the ribs are pretty good, but Danny D's brisket is their outstanding contribution to BBQ.

“Ribs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2011

You can get good brisket almost anywhere. Nobody does ribs better than Danny D's. I don't even understand how a place like Spring Creek can advertise how good their ribs are, or how people can order them there. If you like ribs at Spring Creek, or Dickey's, or wherever, you haven't had good ribs until you've had them here. Come on Wed. or Thurs. for all-you-can-eat. You won't be sorry.

The BBQ is so tasty and the sides are all good, too. Try the onion rings.

“It's has good food, and is a good value always. 20-yr repeat customer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2011

I’ve been a regular at Danny D’s for exactly 20 years now, and if you’re looking for the short version the food is good, the pricing is fair, the atmosphere casual, and value very good. I’m still buying from them which indicates they are still holding well even after two recent owner changes.

Up until about three years ago, a single owner, George D. had the place. It was amusing that his only cola offering was RC; no Coke, no Pepsi, no Dr Pepper; just RC. He wasn’t interested in selling anything but very good food but I’ve found no other establishment anywhere that sold only RC cola on the fountain. George had indicated he was ready to go and indeed sold the place to a new younger owner.

That interim period was one of uncertainty, as the new owner obviously didn’t have a clue just how fragile a profitable restaurant is, and you cannot come in and uproot everything, and make overwhelming changes to the menu and offerings, and expect the customer base that’s been earned over many years to keep coming back. Among the most notable errors was putting in 9 different brands of beer on tap. Hurst Texas biggest industry is churches, and the people who make this place profitable may buy a beer with a meal, but they are not going to warm up to that kind of beer sales. Something in that person’s life forced him to sell it in very short order, and the new owner has settled things back down before the place died.

They make everything there. The flavors of their sauces and dressings are not poured out of any bottle. Each is prepared onsite from protected recipes. The most unusual and particularly good one is their coleslaw dressing, but don’t ask what they put in it, because they won’t tell you. They make their barbecue sauce as was evidenced by the day a bay leaf was served on a sandwich. After explaining to the customer that it is intended to be in the sauce, it just didn’t get filtered properly they were OK with the leaf in their sandwich.

Among the odder things that was added by the previous owner but has gained acceptance is weekly karaoke. I don’t care for this, but the cars in the parking lot reveal lots of other people do, and I’m told they are having fun.

They’re open every week day up through 6 PM Sundays, and they take Mondays off always.

Yes, I’d recommend it to anyone, and I go back there all the time. Unless someone is too picky for their own good, they will be able to find something they like at Danny D’s in Hurst TX

“Pretty Good BBQ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2008

Went by Danny D's BBQ while over in Hurst and wanted to give it a try, I had the Sandwich Basket......Sliced Brisket, Onion Rings & a Drink.

The place is small but nice, clean and had inside & outside dining, first the Brisket was very good imo, not stringy but good and solid with smokey flavor, tried without the sauce at first then put on some of their sauce which was very good, not a thick sauce or overpowering.........The Onion Rings were not bad but really more average and I got the feeling they were not made on site.

A good lunch basket for under $8.00
