The Sam Houston Memorial Mueseum is located across the street from the University bearing the same name. It is more than just a museum about Sam Houston. It is a must see for any Texas, or history buff. The museum has exhibits in the traditiona museum setting, artifacts from the Texas Revolution and state of the art interactive presentations that are easily interfaced for children and adults. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The main building is well kept and has a beutifull copper dome. Outside is a heavily shaded park with a pond full of ducks, turtles, and geese. There is a small creek that runs though the par too. The setting is in the middle of Huntsville, so it is very quiet. There are two houses from the 1800's that belonged to Sam Houston and are decorated with actual furtiture from the time he lived there. Other buildings built recently but in the design of the 1800
s are a slave cabin ,a law office and a kitchen. Gardens are maintained year round with plants that were authenticv to the Sam Houston period. There is an educational building on the premises that dosplayed modern art and crafts. At least once a year they have a fair where people sell antiques, dress up as Txians and eat food from the 1800's A very nice place to visit.
