“Excellent food in unique surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

This is the only fine dining restaurant in Huntsville. We've never had a bad meal and the owner and chef, John, is very active and hands on. The "spicy tomato and red pepper soup" is not to be missed. We have it every time we dine at the Homestead. The steaks and seafood are exceptional. The only negative is that the service could occasionally be better, but more often than not, it's good to great. The restaurant is housed in several old log cabins that have been joined. For "new comers" that will be interesting, but don't let the rustic atomoshpere fool you. This is fine dining at a reasonable price.

“Highly overrated.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

This restaurant is purported to be the best in Huntsville, but you would be much better off somewhere else. The waitstaff is a mixed bag, some are really good college students busting their humps to get through school, others are burnouts. Turnover is fairly high.

I took my grandfather here when he visited-- supper for two at around $70 may be acceptable at the 4 star restaurant the chef claims to have, but both of our steaks came out cold and there is no excuse for that.

People may really enjoy this place because of its rustic ambiance across from Sam Houston's Woodland Home, but let's be honest-- it's just some old wooden cabins strewn together.

“If your Galveston cruise comes back Sunday morning....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

...STOP HERE! We were delighted to find this interesting place on the edge of the Sam Houston outdoor museum on our drive back to Dallas from the Caribbean. Howver, it's only open on Sundays for lunch but also in the evenings. Wow! The food is fabulous, and this old, gray, clapboard farmhouse is fascinating. Tomato soup and tiny muffins and rolls were a delectable way to start the meal. Don't miss this place!!!

“Historic Location, Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Enjoyed this restaurant, which is built in an historic log house across the street from Sam Houston Historical Park and Museum.

Food is good, prices reasonable, but the hours are short. So be sure to time your visit because they quit serving after 2 p.m. So you will have to wait for them to open for dinner (6 p.m. ish).

“Ya's Ya's 2012 trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

it could of been better. The place was so nice and unique, but our young waiter didn't know anything about wine and he gave us white wine glasses instead of bigger red wine ones. When we asked him, he still didn't get it, so we dropped it. My stead was rib eye, medium, but they served it medium well and it was tough and not flavor-full. I just had a medium rib eye at Saltgrass Steakhouse and it was great. So no, for me I will not go back for rib eye.
