“Oooh...Yummy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

Simply put...yummy BBQ. I love the family feel of this place & the staff was extremely nice and accommodating. The food was definitely worth the visit...just good smoked flavor & delicious, tangy BBQ sauce that lingers for hours. The place is certainly nothing fancy...but who cares? We're talking BBQ here! It's comfortable & the food is delicious. I would say it's a place everyone should try. If for nothing else, the experience of having the famous church BBQ. I feel like anyone who loves BBQ would really enjoy the food though. I will definitely be back!

“New Zion Missionary Baptist Church Barbecue!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2012 via mobile

Stopped here on a roadtrip and it was some of the best barbecue I have ever had. The sausage was smoky and juicy with a great casing snap. The ribs were meaty and the brisket was very good! I am not a fan of potato salad but could have had second helpings of this one! Yum!

“Church of the holy smoke”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012 via mobile

Split the 3 meat plate with husband. Chicken, ribs, and sausage. Comes with potato salad, pinto beans, sliced bread, pickles, and onions. $11.50. Chicken was tasty, but dry. Sausage was juicy, and good taste. Ribs were tough. Sauce is good. Potato salad and beans ok. Plenty of food. The hook here is the friendly service, and it's association with the church next door. Better BBQ at Burns in Houston.

“Not your regular restaurant”

They don't call it the Church of the Holy Smokes for nothing. Food is down home soul food. Don't expect fancy surroundings!

“Really Cool!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2011

Any Barbeque lover who finds themselves in Huntsville, TX on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday should definitely give this place a try.

If you are unable to find it, just ask a local person. Seems that most folks in the area know it by name or description (the church that sells Barbeque…).

There is something about a BBQ pit the size of a Volkswagen and serving it up in a really old building that just seems right.
Nothing fancy; self-service iced tea from a huge water cooler, and some really good meat (my ribs were perfect).

A fun experience. Watch out for the telephone pole that seems to be in the middle of the driveway (really).
