“Sam Houston, Patriot, Statesman, and Freemason”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

Stopped in here because I'm a history nut and a Freemason. There's little here to see except the very large starue of Sam Huston overlooking I-45. There is a welcome center and a giftshop for souveniers.

The big draw here is the statue itself. Sam was a big man in life...and in death. He was also a Freemason....very proud to be in tat brotherhood. Very big Texas hero! No charge. I liked it!

“Impressive statue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2014 via mobile

I drove by this twice, recently going to and from Houston. Beautiful impressive statue of a Texas hero visible from I45.

A tourist trap! Admission is free but there's nothing to say except the statue which you can see from the highway. Although it is illegal to park along the highway to view the statue; there's not much to an up close and personal visit except the ability to get a closer view.Suggestion: keep on driving save your time get a better value elsewhere, for instance the prison Museum just a couple of exits down the road a lot better value.

“Looks great from the freeway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

We only saw this from the Northbound I45 but knew it was there so slowed down a bit to look at it.
It does indeed look great set in the woods looking out over the freeway. Old Sam looks very impressive as you drive by.
By all means, slow down and take a look, but be careful. It's probably not wise to stop on the Interstate!

“Great place to visit but please don't park on the side of I45!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

There is a lovely gift shop and information center here at the statue. There are pictures of the construction of the statue, Sam Houston related gifts and souvenirs and clean bathrooms if you stop along your way. There is no fee to enter or explore the grounds. But please DO NOT PARK ON INTERSTATE 45 TO VIEW THE STATUE! There is a great parking lot if you come to the statue from State Hwy 75. It is illegal and very dangerous to stop on the side of an Interstate!
