“Great if you love shopping in the Galleria”

Stayed here a few weeks on business. The hotel is literally part of the Galleria Mall, right next to the Cheesecake Factory. The location is great not just because of the mall, but the general area has many dining options within a short walk or drive. Also, you can park for free overnight in any of the color-coded underground garages.

The rooms are decent, nothing great or bad about them. There is a tiny balcony ledge you can step out onto to have a smoke. The Westin Work-out rooms will have a treadmill, a Pilates ball, and some basic weights. As a bonus, those rooms have DVD players.

The Westin itself does not have a gym, you have to walk to the sister Westin Galleria hotel, and across from that is a gym you can access with your room key. This is kind of a pain if you wanna work out because you have to walk back through the mall all sweaty and nasty.

The hotel seems a little dated and their elevators definitely need some work. Overall, a nice hotel mainly due to their prime locale, but for $300+/night I would expect more.

In response to review, I want to thank you for taking time to provide such valuable feedback. If it weren't for guest such as you, we wouldn't know what we need to improve upon or maintain.

We are certainly happy to hear that you were able to experience one of our Workout Rooms, as many of guests enjoy the convenience of working out in the privacy of their own room. Unfortunately because we are limited ont he availability, we have the Fitness Center located at the Westin Galleria tower.

The purpose of the Fitness Center being located at the other hotel is for the safety and security of our guests. By having it connected to our gift shop, it allows us to monitor the equipment and ensure that mall visitors aren't accessing the facility.

The other reason is space. The space available for us is limited and that location gave us the best opportunity to provide our guests with a fitness experience free of charge. It also allows us the opportunity to grow, should that opportunity arise.

As for the age of the hotel, we are actually in the process of developing plans to upgrade and renovate the hotel. The plan is for the process to take about 5 years to do our best to limit the inconvenience to our guests. However, please be patient with us as we go through the process.

We have recently replaced all the beds throughout the hotel. We are replacing the television sets with new flat screen LCD television sets. We expect that process to start in the next few months.

The bigger projects are still in the development stages, but we expect to start within the next year or so on some of the major upgrades.

“Great for Shopping”

We stayed at the Westin Oaks as we wanted to be close to The Galleria Mall. It is definitely a great location if you plan to spend lots of time shopping in The Galleria. The rooms are a great size but are very worn out and in need of updating. The hotel is a little bit expensive for the standard of accommodation.

“Worn out, poor value”

Despite charging a hefty premium compared to other hotels, the Westin Oaks is old and worn out:

1) The rooms need refurbishing, bits missing etc
2) No safes in the rooms
3) The rooms seem very spartan
4) The whole place has a dated feel to it
5) Poor security - bad especially as it is connected to the Galleria

I recommend saving money and staying in a better hotel.

I am truly sorry that your experience wasn't as pleasant as we would have liked.

I just wanted to let you know that we are in the process of developing plans to update and renovate the hotel. The process is expected to take approximately 5 years to complete.

Because of guests such as you, we have already had a few things done . . . .all the beds have been replaced throughout the hotel. New flat screen LCD television sets will replace the ones in the rooms currently. We expect that to take place over the next few months. We are replacing carpeting as rooms are available to do so.

The bigger projects are expected to start sometime in the next year, as they are still in the develoment stages.

I also wanted to let you know that all of our rooms do have safes in them. They are located in the closet. In the case that you have an item that doesn't fit in the room safe, we also offer personal safes at the front desk.

As for the security, I can assure you that we have cameras located throughout the hotel to monitor non-guests. During major conference events, we also hire Houston Police Department personnel to help monitor access to the hotel. But if you ever have concerns, you are always welcome to contact our security department while you are in house and they would be happy to address any concerns you have.

We truly strive to provide personal and instinctive service to our guests and because of guests like you, we are able to ensure we continue to grow and maintain our brand standards. We believe feedback is a gift and such a gift should be appreciated and taken seriously.

“Needs to be completely remodeled”

A great location is about all this going for this hotel if you love to shop till you drop. The room had the following problems: Carpeting was old, worn and dirty. ALL the furniture needs refinishing. Chairs were dirty, worn out and need replacing. Lights didn’t work in 3 places. Bathroom door knob was broken therefore the door would not stay shut unless you used the deadbolt. Ceiling tiles in bathroom needed replacing. Bathroom door had a hole in it at the bottom. Bathtub water sprout is coming loose at wall. The window shades are stripped for raising them. NEXT, the hallways need new carpeting, walls need new wallpaper or new paint, NEXT, all 4 elevators have misc. lights that are out indicating which floor you are on, all 4 elevators do not stop at floor level, some higher some lower, they all need repainting, etc. Two good things about the hotel, beds are great, staff is very friendly. Had we not been here on a free stay because our company paid for it, I would have left after the first night. Stay elsewhere until they completely remodel this hotel!

Stayed here with my wife while visiting friends.Room and bed were very comfortable and in great shape.The Hotel is connected to tthe largest mall I have ever seen.My wife shopped like crazy and there were plenty of restaurants also.Only drawback was that the room rate seemed high. Staff was helpful with directions for places outside the hotel and there was allot to do in the area.
