I stayed for two weeks with my husband and two young children (3yrs, and 4mths). My husband was in Houston for business and the kids and I were (are) just following him around the world.
I read the earlier reviews when I learnt we'd be staying at Rodeway Inn & Suites, and I was not pleased that he'd arranged for us to stay there, but it turned out to be perfect for our requirements.
The kids and I spent most of our time at the hotel - my son can handle at most a couple of hours doing touristy things every few days, and really prefers to just be at home playing with familiar toys.
Things my son loved about Rodeway Inn & Suites (and if he's happy, we're all happy!) included: bath tub, shady grass courtyard to run around in for a couple of hours each afternoon, small swing hanging in the courtyard, patch of dirt to drive his cars through, the friendly cleaning staff, proximity to Children's Museum, Hermann Park (including Zoo, Natural Science Museum, miniature train, pedal boats, playgrounds) and Wortham Park.
Things I liked included: spacious rooms (both kids could spread their toys out on the floor without any chance of intermingling), grocery stores only a couple of blocks down the road, having a kitchen so we didn't have to take the kids to restaurants too often, no minibar so we didn't have to worry about our son getting into it, guest laundry, proximity to a mexican restaurant which had a band and dance floor for the kids on Friday nights.
Additional things my husband liked: it was a very short walk to catch the bus to University of Houston (just across the road), free wireless internet, free basic breakfast, very inexpensive.
Our suite was downstairs, with two queen-size beds, lounge, desk, kitchen plus small dining area. It was clean and comfortable.
Things that we didn't like so much were: there was only one small window which didn't let much light in (although it also kept a lot of the heat out, so had its good points), most of the 'doors' of the cupboards in the kitchen were fixed in place and there were very few things to use to cook or eat with (2 small pots, 4 plates, 2 bowls, 2 coffee mugs, 4 forks, 2 spoons, 1 teaspoon, 3 knives - we bought a frying pan, sharp knife and other bits and pieces) and nothing provided to wash or dry the dishes with, no oven (there was a microwave).
The linen isn't soft and fluffy, and the toilet paper is awful, but what else would you expect for the price?
There was a tv but we didn't turn it on, so I don't know what channels were available.
By the end of our stay we had definitely made ourselves at home and were wishing we didn't have to leave.
