Booked this hotel for one night for after-Thanksgiving shopping.
The location could not have been better (unless you stay at the other Westin at the Galleria- the Oaks which is equally good.)
The reservation was booked directly through the Starwood website.
Pros: The reservation was in order, nice gentleman at check-in.
I received a higher floor as requested. Also, the room was ready when we checked in (around eleven am) which was nice. The room was spacious and had nice beds, television, mini bar. The rate was decent.
They allowed two adults and two children in their regular room with two queen beds. The beds were comfortable and we slept well.
The location was excellent in the Galleria. Absolutely worth the cons to be on sight vs. next to the Galleria shopping center at another hotel.
Cons: Balcony was scary- almost dangerous. Bathroom had paint missing on the door, rust in the tub, overall a little dingy.
Service was indeed lacking. There was no porter at the door when we drove up- my husband had to unload onto the baggage cart and wheel it in himself. Bathrobe hanging from the bathroom door was dirty. I requested a clean one which was supplied in the closet but the dirty robe was not removed and should have been. Carpets are dingy in the rooms and downright dirty in the halls. They need cleaning or replacing.
There was a general feeling that this hotel needs a face-lift!
Not a single "public" restroom was open in the whole hotel. I entered on the third floor while shopping, it was locked. Went down to the lobby and was told to go to floor four. On that floor, an inept secretary told me that all the public restrooms were locked since the public tried to come into the hotel from the mall.
I told her it would be nice to have at least ONE open restroom for hotel guests. At that point, I took the elevator up to the 15th floor to my own room- but was left with a feeling of poor service and neglect in the hotel.
Despite the cons, I would stay here again simply due to the location. The beds were comfortable, and if you can put up with less than perfect service and a slightly dingy hotel, I recommend a stay here.
