We reserved the Lancaster through Hotwire and for the price it was a very nice hotel for a quick getaway to Houston. The downtown location worked well for us, easily within walking distance of the top Houston attractions. As for the hotel, it is an older style hotel with a helpful, friendly staff. The room is on the smaller side but as long as you do not plan on spending all day in the room watching TV it is a great fit. Very comfortable bed and pillows. One piece advice, if parking, we parked across the street in the theater parking and it cost only $12 for two days while the hotel's valet parking (which is all they offer) was $30 a night.

  • Liked — The location and the comfortable bedding
  • Disliked — The expensive parking provided by the hotel

I travel for business and recently spent 4 nights at the Lancaster. The first room they gave me was on the second floor, right above the valet parkers - it was too noisy. Next, they have me this teeny little room on the 14th floor that was smaller than my walk in closet at home, I stayed on night, but was back at the front desk the next morning. Then they moved me to a beautiful deluxe room on the 11th floor, nice and quiet and tastefully decorated. The king size bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroon was nice, the tv was old and hard to watch. Room Service was horrible, don't order it, way over priced and then no taste. I ordered a BLT and throught brought it without any mayo... I ordered another sandwich that came with avacado, but never got the sandwich - it was all pretty hit and miss. The room was great, the temperatr conrols worked great. One night one of the valets drove me to the supermarket in his limo, I felt great about that. The best part of the Lancaster are the people who work there, always trying to make you feel at home.

I can't wait to go back, next time I know what room to ask for. This is an older hotels, with history and very slow elavators, but its really nice.

  • Liked — location, close to my office
  • Disliked — the elevators are very sow and small

We have stayed at the Lancaster several times over the past 18 years, and the decor has remained the same. Unfortunately on our last visit the sheer curtains were actually torn as was one of the couch cushions. The room was large, space for folding clothes is lacking, but the area is otherwise well appointed. Service was impeccable as usual. The advertised rates were not as promised by e-mail. We were not given one of the nights at a discounted rate, and this was never corrected.

The Bistro dining experience was outstanding.

The Lancaster is in need of updating

We stayed at The Lancaster Hotel in July 2007 as it was very close to Jones Hall theatre. The rooms only had King beds and a sofa. We had to get a rollaway in as well as there were 4 of us in the room. Check in was interesting - I had requested for a Non-smoking room and they told me they upgraded me to the 9th floor and when we got there, it was a smoking room. Yikes! Down again I went to change the room back to what I had originally. All I want is a non-smoking room and enough room to sleep in.

Very basic tolietries in the bathroom, the rooms were clean enough but could be cleaner. Had to valet the car and that was expensive! Didn't know Houston well enough to find the public parking.

The restaurant was pretty good. We had breakfast there. Service was impeccable.

All in all, it was an OK hotel to stay at.

I had a single-night stay at the Lancaster on a brief business trip to Houston. The staff is terrific -- friendly and professional. The room was lovely and clean (although there were some old stains on the upholstery of the chair and ottoman in the room). And they kindly kept my luggage for me after I checked out but before I was to fly out my second day there. All excellent things. A few flaws, however: They refused to direct-bill my company (even though they have a longtime relationship with my company AND this arrangement was included in the reservation), so I had to use my own credit card. Breakfast room service was very nice -- food was on time and fresh -- but pricey. My $13 omelette and $5 oj turned out to run $30 with all the taxes and forced gratuities. (As though $18 for breakfast ain't expensive enough!) And in my queen-size room, the TV armoire was placed head-bumpingly close to the bed. The room was small, but there had to be some other way to arrange the furniture!

  • Liked — The friendly, professional staff.
  • Disliked — The very high prices.
