“Fantastic service and beautiful, large guest room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Russell checked us in and he was absolutely FANTASTIC! I am a frequent business traveler and have stayed in myriad hotels over the years - I can honestly say that I've never had a better check in experience. Russell is the best in the business. He was friendly, courteous, engaging, and my son and I felt welcomed immediately.

The room was beautifully appointed and very spacious - honestly, I was surprised at how much room we had given that the Lancaster is an historic property (usually they have the smallest rooms!). There was a special little chocolate on each of our beds greeting us upon arrival, the linens were CLEAN and luxurious and the beds comfy, and the bathroom had deluxe-sized luxury toiletries.

The Lancaster is within a short walk of many attractions and restaurants - we went to the Hard Rock Cafe for dinner and it was an easy 5 minute walk. I will definitely stay at the Lancaster again, as well as recommend it to any friends and family visiting Houston.

Dear Sara R.,

We were honored to serve you during your recent trip to Houston. Many thanks for the keen comments, as we strive to deliver the very best service across all levels and departments. Our rooms are quite large given that we are a historic property built in 1926 and continuously operated as a hotel since it's original inception! We hope to welcome you again when you travels bring you to Houston.

Sincerely,

The Lancaster Management Team

We have stayed at the Lancaster several times and love it! We asked for and received room 207 as that is the room we most often stay in. This lovely hotel is elegant and graceful. The staff is helpful and efficient. Our room was plenty large and the bed comfortable. This location is very near the Alley Theatre, Jones Hall, the ballet and Bayou Place (where there are restaurants and a movie theatre). The hotel will transport you to any downtown location that is too far to walk (one stay they drove us to Minute Maid park). We love The Lancaster and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we want a downtown weekend.

Room Tip: corner rooms ending with 7.....stay out of 207 in case we want to book a weekend :)

12-21-2012 stay
Hotels downtown location is close to everything. Staff is knowledgeable, efficient, kind, friendly.
The Hotel/dinning areas were nicely decorated for the Holiday's. The hotel was offering package which included breakfast. Breakfast consisted of fruit, yogurts, danish, eggs, bacon, toast upon request, cereals (hot & cold). The dinning room was very well kept. The bar area, open in the evenings, is well stocked. The bartender is a gentleman. Valet people are very helpful, too.
The hotel is going to undergoing updating in 2013 so we look forward to seeing the changes. Just hoping it won't loose any of it's old charm in the process.

Room Tip: Be sure to look at the books in the lobby of the hotels history.

This establishment occpies a building that has been a hotel for almost 100 years. In Houston, that's quite a long time. When this hotel was opened, it created the only space of authentic anglophile traditional lodging in downtown Houston. I have stayed there many times and have seen some changes and variety in staffing, amenities, restaurant menu, and the like, but not a decline in helpful staff, an interest in maintaining solid quality, and a respect for a business traveler's need for some quiet time. A rock 'n roll heaven it is not. The small restaurant/bistro seems to be exactly the right size for the guests (both those staying in the hotel and Houstonians who drop by for a meal or a drink). And, at least for now, the commitment to a truly authentic (almost prototype) continental atmosphere, is welcomed. If I wanted to look for little things to carp about, I suspect that I could find them. But, of all of the options now in downtown Houston, the Lancaster remains my first choice.

I first stayed here on the recommendation of a friend who is a very high-end traveler, who raved about this place. I've now stayed at the Lancaster three times, and it's my go-to place when annual business brings me to Houston. It's lived up to everything he promised.

The place is full of history and character, and gives a strong sense of place. The rooms are friendly and cozy and have all the amenities you could ask for. The little bistro downstairs is elegant and friendly if you don't want to venture out (and there's not that much else in the neighborhood, especially at breakfast).

But the real strength here is that they know how to treat a woman traveling alone. I'm invariably given a little extra attention, and the clear sense I'm being looked after. They don't try to shunt me off into a converted closet somewhere at the back of the second floor, like a lot of hotels do; instead, I get a nice room with a view without having to ask for it.

If it comes down to a choice between here and the Magnolia down the street, I'd say: go here.

Room Tip: The high floors have great views.

Every year around the Holidays me and my bride of 26 years take a night or two and do a local staycation. This year we chose The Lancaster Hotel on Texast in the theatre district. Why, I don't know. We were not planning on seeing a show and had no other plans downtown, but stay we did. The lobby and entarnce to the Hotel is beautiful. The quiet small dining room is charming. We had the limited buffet breakfast in the morning, but the food was fresh and tasty.

We did have to be moved to a different room after we checked in as the one they put us in was horrid, musty and not at all up to a boutique hotels standards. They did however redeem themselves by putting is in room 507. A wonderful large corner room over looking the corner of Texasand Louisiana Street.

There are a ton of renovations going on and signs everywhere say that all new rooms will be in place summer of 2013.

Unfortunately, there are not any amenities at the Hotel and not much close by, but if you are seeing a show or have plans downtown, this hotel will be fine.

Room Tip: corner king rooms are the only way to go

Dear Recent Guests,

We apologize for the inconvenience you experienced upon check in - we were happy to upgrade you to a Deluxe King Corner Room. Yes, we are undergoing a renovation that includes both guest rooms and public areas. As you know, we are in the heart of the theatre district, located just one block from the Wortham, Alley Theatre, & Jones Hall. There are also a number of restaurants within walking distance. Thanks for choosing the Lancaster for your staycation.

Sincerely,

The Lancaster Management Team
