“first trip to Houston for Quilt Market”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Was a wonderful stay... we had hoped to stay closer to the convention center, but was unable to do so. Found this online and the pics looked great. Was really very enjoyable. The shuttle proved to be an easy 3 minute trip, and was quick to pick us up at the end of the day. The free breakfast was very good, hot and fresh every morning. The room was not spacious, but was very comfortable and clean. We will, without doubt, stay here again when we come to Houston.

My daughter and I stayed here in November while in town for a concert. The location was convenient to the venue in the theater district. We were greeted by friendly staff at check in. The room was clean and nicely finished with elegant furnishings and amenities. The hotel offers a wine reception and free shuttle within a 3 mile radius. The beds were extremely comfortable and the free breakfast was delicious! I look forward to staying here in the future.

We stayed one night at the Lancaster, and loved the ambiance of this old hotel that was built in the 1920s. Its personality is a welcome relief from the sterile chain hotels which are indistinguishable. You KNOW you're at the Lancaster.

You may want to skip the complimentary breakfast buffet, or at least check it out beforehand. It was frigid in the restaurant, and the staff chatted loudly over a blaring television set as we drank tepid, weak coffee. Evening dining at the restaurant, however, is a real treat.

The hotel is close to the performing arts in the area; the rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the lobby is grand.

The hotel staff is professional, courteous and knowledgeable (except for the morning crew in the restaurant, but I'm just counting that as a one-off experience and not representative of the rest of the hotel).

Dear Recent Guest,

We are glad that you particularly enjoyed that historic aspect of the hotel, as we are a member of the Historic Hotels of America. The hotel is independently owned and operated and we take pride in the tremendous history of the hotel. In fact, the owner's great-grandfather, Michele DeGeorge, is the original founder and builder. We look forward to serving you again and hope to see you in the future.

Sincerely,

The Lancaster Management Team

I visited Houston with three friends recently for an opera weekend. The Lancaster was the perfect place to stay. The staff was very courteous and helpful, the food excellent, the rooms clean and comfortable and the price very affordable for downtown Houston. We all felt right at home. And we could walk everywhere we wanted to go! What a treat!

This is, by far, the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The room, and hotel, in general was old and had a bad odor. Our $114 room turned into a $172 room when we checked out. Way overpriced. The sofa in our room was old and had a slip cover. I can't find our room among the elegant pictures on the website.

We hosted the regional meeting for ISACA chapters at the Lancaster the weekend of October 20, 2012. Excellent experience both with accomodations and the catered food for breakfast and lunch. We expected the quality of food to be good and found it to be excellent. Service was excellent as well. Marketing was great to accomodate our needs. very nice and unique facility - almost private that we prefer.

Room Tip: Close to so many fun things, across the street is Jones Hall, on the side is Alley Theater, catty co...

I really like this hotel - location is fantastic for business meetings; cosy, human-scale feel amid the high rise surroundings and the food is excellent as well. It's a gem. You can fit in multiple downtown meetings in a day and still walk back to the hotel to relax if necessary.
