Our family just returned from a great weekend at The Houstonian. My husband and I stayed there several years ago before we had children and were very pleased to find it has been updated and is as accommodating for families as it is for couples. Of course our stays were different. The first time we enjoyed breakfast in bed, the hot tub after working out at their fabulous huge health club and walks on their grounds after yummy dinners. This time we enjoyed the continental breakfast on the club level, dropping off the kids at the kids' club at the health club (3 hours a day is free) so we could take free fitness classes and exercise, swimming in one of 3 pools (one has a small water slide and 2 shallow areas for kids), watching the kids conquer the indoor rock climbing wall (small charge but they work 1 on 1 with the kids). They also have a nice separate spa area and tennis courts that we didn't have a chance to investigate. We were off seeing all of the great kid-friendly sites of Houston (such as the zoo, fabulous children's museum, Health museum (sounds so-so but it has excellent exhibits about different organs and a 4-D movie about cells and DNA) and downtown aquarium (buy the $16 all day pass so you can ride the rides over and over).
The Houstonian is just a lovely property (14 acres or so I believe) that is close to the Galleria and yet not too far from the museum district and downtown. We were very happy to see they have kept it up to date with new decor yet retained the club look; too many hotels look too modern in our opinion.
Don't miss the huge health club. It is famous in Houston for a good reason and you can't beat their childcare in a safe, friendly environment (local health club members leave their kids at the same facility). Go enjoy yourself!

  • Liked — large property with lots of things to do
  • Disliked — elevator was not working properly so club card did not work on every elevator

Celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with bed and breakfast package. Booked a room on the concierge floor with a room view of the woods. Everything was excellent. Also enjoyed dinner in the hotel restaurant. Staff was wonderful. Highly recommend!

When I arrived at the Houstonian, they had lost my reservation. Fortunately I had an email confirmation. It was quickly sorted out and I received the most yummy plate of cookies and an apology letter shortly there after.

The room was newly decorated to a very high standard. The only bad thing was I did not have WIFI or cell phone connectiivty in my room due to the trees surrounding the room. That meant I had to go down to the lobby to use both phone and laptop. I was on business so this was a bit of a pain.

The food was fabulous and the service was amazing. The pools were very nice and not over crowded. I brought my 10 year old daughter with me and the hotel arranged a terrific babysitter for her. Every request I had was quickly granted. The overall experience here is excellent and I will go back the next time I am in Houston.

Stayed for one night. Nice room, even for the first floor we had a great view of the grounds, I imagine the higher up floors are just as great or better. Since we were on the first floor on the way to the pool there was some hallway noise. The grounds are beautiful, worth it to take the time to walk around outside.
Overnight valet parking is $19 (plus tax!) overnight parking (no valet) is $9.
Room service breakfast was excellent, and even had healthy fruit choices!
Olivette was also very good, though there are better high priced places to eat in the area.

We stayed at the Houstonian because our Son's Medical Residency Program Graduation was being held at this hotel. We drove in from San Antonio, Texas earlier the same day.

We booked and received a Concierge Level Guest Room on the 4th floor (this is a key access level). Our room was a little larger than average sized but was luxury appointed. King bed, luxury bedding. Sitting area with sofa, large club chair, desk, executive chair, and regular chair. Beautiful wood armoire, many lamps. Bathroom was small but luxurious. Closet with thick terry towels.

Floor to ceiling windows that overlooked a forest and brook. Property is sumptuous with 3 pools and a spa that is world class.

Concierge Level gave you continental breakfast, cocktails, hor dourves, and then sweets and cordials to top off the evening in a large and sumptuously appointed club area. Concierge is available from 6am - 10pm seven days a week.

If you are looking for an experience that takes you out of the big city feel of Houston and want to feel pampered, treat yourself to a Concierge Level Guest Room at The Houstonian.
