I booked a "king" room at this hotel for my husband and I for a long weekend to visit family in the area. I must admit that it is not the easiest of hotels to locate unless one is very familiar with the area. However, once on the grounds this low-rise oasis is well worth the effort. The staff was very pleasant, from the valet, to the doorman, to the reservation clerk, the restaurant personnel, and even the cleaning staff. The hotel was decorated for the Christmas season which I feel added to the beauty of the lobby. The bed was very comfortable, the room was clean and quiet. The bath is a bit small compared to others but adequate. There are walking/jogging trails around the grounds. I saw at least 3 pools, the largest had a waterfall and a slide. There is a huge fitness facility with every conceivable machine and free weights. In addition there are fitness classes available. We only ate breakfast at the hotel because of our busy schedule but it was delicious all 3 days. The hotel grounds were well maintained. Walking around the acreage, you certainly don't feel like you are in a big city. Unfortunately, our busy schedule did not allow time to partake of the spa. Our room had a mini bar, a safe for valuables, the television was adequate, and so were the bath amenities. One word of caution: there is a separate shelf in the bath that has spa amenities that you can purchase. The price of each item is listed, but I wouldn't suggest that you can sample them for free. So beware: if you use them you will be charged. Extra fluffy pillows and an extra blanket were provided. Also a hair dryer was provided and even an umbrella for those unexpected Houston showers. One morning while using the hair dryer the breaker for the power in the bath blew out. My husband called down to the front desk and a maintenance person was dispatched within 5 minutes. Would I recommend this hotel? Without a doubt! Will we stay there again? Definitely. Only the next time we stay at the Houstonian I will make certain that I bring some workout clothing for the fitness center plus book the spa for a treatment.

Had the pleasure of staying at the Houstonian for a business meeting in September.

The rooms are fabulously comfortable and the staff quite helpful and accomodating.

Dinner at the Manor House was first rate. I highly recommend this property.

This was my second stay at the Houstonian and it was very enjoyable. The staff really makes this place hum.. from the valets to the bell hops to the room service staff... everyone is just so nice and thoughtful.

My room was a standard room with a king size bed and yes, the bathrooms are small and not luxurious... bu the beds are comfortable and I felt like I was in a tree house with the trees and vines outside my window. (I much preferred staying on the 3rd floor rather than the 1st.) Listening to the cicada's at night was magical and I love their blackout curtains that allowed me to sleep in!

Room service was fast and the food (eggs benedict one morning and a margherita pizza late one night) was fast and above average.

This hotel is not brand new and may not have a lot of bells and whistles... but the location works for me and its a nice change from cookie cutter hotels.

  • Liked — The location of the property, self park, comfortable rooms and friendly staff.
  • Disliked — The hallways are long and smell a bit musty... not sure why.

We booked a corner king on the concierge level and was told by the hotel that this was a large room and the equivalent of a junior suite .When we checked in we were told that the concierge level was full but we would be put on another floor and have full access .We were then taken to our room ,it was very small ,dark and gloomy and old .The bathroom was tiny .My wife and I looked at each other and said there was no way we could spend 4 nights in that room .Our corner room was also next to the elevator .We went back to the front desk and asked for another room .We were told they were all the same and this was a corner room because of the way the hotel is built .So I said we would pay more for a better room .We were in the best room they have but we were offered a suite at nearly triple our rate .We asked for a manager ,who told us they do not deal on suites and this was the best rate he could do .We declined his kind offer and told him we would be checking out .We then spent 30 minutes trying to find another hotel with Amex .Michael the Manager watched us the whole time and even offered us water .How kind .At no time did they offer us anything other than the Suite .This was 8.30 pm and the Suites were empty ,but I guess they do not care about making their guests happy .We travel every other week worldwide and this is just the second time we have ever checked out like this. Amex found us a room at the Za Za .We checked in and Wow !!!! What a place .More to come on the ZaZA .

I stayed in a $750 suite on the club level. The room was beautiful and well appointed but a bit small. Service was mediocre at best. I requested a 4:10 am wake up call, which I never received. Had to physically go find the valet person because they did not answer the phone. I had almost $50 of mini bar charges mysteriously added to my bill. Room service was pretty good, the grounds are beautiful, the pool and spa are quite nice. Overall, for the amount they charge, I've had significantly better service at The Ritz, Four Seasons, St. Regis.
