The Sheraton Suties Galleria looks new from the outside, but you might not be able to tell once you get in the property.
First off the positives.. The staff were very kind to me during my entire stay and the close location to the Galleria was very convenient for any evening shopping trips. Garage self-parking
(for a fee) is available behind the hotel, no problem finding a space except in evening hours be prepared to park on the top deck. The starwood members level in the hotel provided complimentary wi-fi - something I appreciated versus having to use a PC card for my laptop or paying for access.
Unfortunately (for me at least) the negatives far outweighed the positives. First, the suite had a very tiny living room, a typical rectangle shape but it was very narrow. The bedroom had decent space and the bed / mattress was just ok in terms in comfort level. Linens and other room furnishings were just okay. The best was the desk and chair which actually were comfortable. The couch in the living room was a low-slung felt covered disaster that was uncomfortable looking - trust me it was!
The Omaha Steakhouse restaurant was nothing to get excited about. My steak was chewy, overcooked and there were more than a few gnats needing to be shooshed away during the course of the (1) meal I ate there. Room service was just okay, the menu is a bit limited and the pizza is something to be avoided.
However, the worst overall feature of the property is traffic / access. If you're familiar with the feeder road system in Houston and other parts of Texas you'll know where this is going. A feeder road is a one way road that usually parallels a highway - in this case I-610, known as the Loop. Offrams from the highway will put you into the left most lane of the feeder road and on-ramps are located usually within a few hundred feet of an offramp.
The hotel has one "combo" entrance and exit and a subesequent exit only access to the feeder road. From the loop there is an offramp not that far before the combo entrance to the hotel. This means that high speed traffic exiting the 610 Loop offramp is wanting to move from the leftmost lane to the rightmost lane to turn right on Westheimer - the main "drag" in front of the Houston Galleria.
During typical morning and afternoon departure / arrival times at the hotel, there is enough traffic stopped in the right lane of the feeder that you'll either have to navigate out of either exit through a line of cars or end up waiting in the right lane to get to the entrance. Of course if you leave at 6am and come back at 8pm or after those times you'll likely not have a problem.
At all times you have to be very careful since people typically speed - badly - on the feeders so you'll have to contend also with traffic moving nearly 50 mph+ in the middle lane of the feeder.
In short, the price was okay booked on Sheraton.Com but there are better choices available at the price point (around $180/nt)
