I've travelled many times to Houston and like the Sheratons because of their location and the Starwood Preferred Guest plan. However, it was only at the first of this year that I finally decided to try out the Four Points in Memorial City. What a grand surprise!

Whereas in Four Points Southwest the front desk staff had been occasionally rather surly, in my three stays to date in Memorial City I've been treated like a king. And my wife and I really appreciated it because my trip was tiring and the reception desk was ever so accomodating! So a big thank you to Barbara, Karen, and Viren!

Now, what can you expect? Well, when you enter the hotel you'll see a rather avant garde large open space lobby. The focus is two-fold: the fireplace and the convivial bar. Further towards the back, there is a restaurant with an abundant breakfast buffet and excellent coffee on tap if you just want some for the road or your room. While they don't get a lot of customers for other meals, the food actually is quite good and reasonably priced. You'll just have to find the lone waiter/manager to place your order and wait a few minutes. While you're waiting you can browse their extensive book selection. Not a luxurious lobby but still rather nice.

As far as the rooms go, we really hit the jackpot because they upgraded us to the junior suite on each night we were there. Huge double flat-screen TV's and no noise transfer from one room to the other (I was able to watch some late night sports without disturbing my wife.) Super comfortable beds plus all the details that Sheraton is famous for.

As far as the location goes, for our purposes it couldn't have been better: Memorial City Mall, Goode Bros. Restaurants, Radio Shack, Wallmart, upscale stores, etc. all within walking distance if you were so inclined, though they do have a shuttle service. With your own car, it's also easy to get onto the main arteries of the city though you'd be approaching from the west instead of the NorthEast or East if you stayed near an airport.

With all of this plus the best prices for the Sheraton chain in Houston, you've got a real winner!

Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge Barbara, Karen and Viren, I will ensure they see your comments. I was delighted to see that your first stay at a Four Points by Sheraton was a great experience ! The hotel opened in March 2008 and we receive numerous compliments about the service, decor and quality of the beds! The majority of the hotel is two room suites which are great for relaxing. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future.

I loved this place.
My wife and I stayed here on our anniversary. I read some of the other reviews, looked at Google Maps to get the street level view of the location and figured to give it a shot.
It is right off the highway so it was easy to find, once we entered the hotel the people at the front desk were very polite and respectable.
The lobby and the bar look just like the pictures, bright, colorful and nice furniture. I think this hotel is pretty new, we went to our room which was on the 7th floor. Elevators are fast, only takes maybe 3 seconds, when we opened our room we had a king bed, chair with ottoman, 2 night stands a nice business desk, refrigerator that actually kept your food and drinks cold and the best part was the flat screen lcd T.V. I think it was maybe a 27 inch, lots of channels, digital and HD stations.
I used the business room a couple of times, computers look just about new, decent internet speed. Lobby is nice, tables are already setup with silverware and coffee mugs.
Fitness area is great if your into working out, 2 elliptical machines, 2 treadmills and 2 bikes. 2 racks of dumbbells 5-50 lbs, bench, crunch machine and a vertical knee raise stand.
All of the cardio machines have there own t.v. mounted on them and the room itself has a large lcd LG T.V. mounted on the wall.
Pool looked nice, I saw a couple of families in there every night we stayed. Also, I don't know what the other people were talking about when they said the hotel is noisy because we did not here anything from the outside, the rooms are well insulated.
Only thing we did not like was not enough pillows on the bed, only one. Pillows are very soft but no support, your head sinks down to the mattress.
I only wish we knew about the breakfast, we did not find out until we were leaving the hotel. And it was not just cereal and muffins there was actually fruit, french toast, sausage, juice and other hot stuff.
Loved our stay there for the price, $65/night I think it was a great value. Next visit to Houston I will look for this place first.

Thank You for taking the time to provide me with the feedback about your stay. I was delighted to read that you enjoyed the hotel and the offerings. The TV's in the guestrooms are actually 32" flat screens and are a great feature when relaxing. The breakfast buffet is available every morning starting at 6:30 a.m. we offer a full breakfast buffet and full menu each morning. The buffet is $12 for adults and $6 for children. We currently have a summer rate special which includes breakfast, I hope your able to return in the summer to take advantage of this promotion.

Stayed here 3 nights visiting a customer in the middle of January, 2009.
Positives: Hotel has undergone recent renovation. Beds, refrigerators, work areas, bathrooms appear to be updated. Free coffee in the morning. Free business center with printers. Location is convenient at the intersection of 2 major roads, and many good restaurants within 5 minutes drive.
Negatives: Location is at the intersection of 2 major roads and just as previous reviewer pointed out - if noise bothers you do not even consider staying here. Rooms on the north side are particularly bad, since they face both Beltway 8 and Katy freeway. Rooms on the south side are just very noisy. It appears that the renovation was done on a very low budget. Here are the couple of examples:
1. Instead of replacing the refrigerators with specialized models that fit into the space under a small counter, like in any other hotel, they installed regular dorm-room style refrigerators that do not have any logical place to be located in the room. As a result they stuffed them under the work desk, making it not very comfortable to use the work area.
2. They have installed normal wood "frames" for flat screen TV's, like other Sheratons, except for the fact that they put 26" TV there at least 37" should be. So the screens look particularly small mounted on the large wooden frames.

Hi and Thank You for your comments!

The Four Points Houston Memorial City opened in March 2008 after undergoing an extensive renovation and re-design. We have received many compliments about the quality of the property and the superior service levels.

I took the initiative to purchased a decibel reader as a result of your comments to identify the noise levels you reffered to in your review of the property.

Our engineering teams checked all 171 rooms and recorded the noise levels in each of the rooms. Over 90% of the rooms testing had a decible reading in the low 40's which is consistent with noise levels in a residential home, we did find some rooms which had elevated levels in the high 50's and were able to identify the root cause as the sound proofing around the HVAC units in those particular rooms.

Our engineering teams have corrected the issues and these rooms are testing at levels consistent with that of a residential home.

The mini fridges were indeed added after the renovation in response to guest comments who indicated that having a mini fridge in the room would be another home away from home comfort.

The Televisions in all 171 Guestrooms are 32" flatscreen TV's and are great for watching your favorite show.

I am extremely grateful for your comments as it has afforded us the opportunity to rectify the elevated noise levels in those isolated rooms.

Please don't hesitate to call me directly at the hotel if I can be of any assistance to you in the near future.

Regards;

I stayed here over Thanksgiving with my Boyfriend and dog. They were nice enough to upgrade us to a suite because of our dog and the front desk and wait staff were so nice! The room was clean and comfy. Our breakfast service to the room was wonderful and quick!

I also really liked their workout facility. The equipment is brand new and there's a great variety. I would definately stay here again.

  • Liked — The cleanliness of the entire hotel and gym
  • Disliked — The bathroom sink faucets have so much water pressure, the water doesn't stay in the sink.

...........traffic noise bothers you while you try to sleep.

The hotel is located right at the intersection of Katy Fwy. and Sam Houston Tollway. Rather, I should say the intersection is located almost on top of the hotel; the Tollway is almost literally on top. The first room they gave me (5th floor) faced Katy Fwy. The noise was awful. So I thought I would be smart, thinking the noise was from Katy and so I would move to the back of the hotel. So they gave me a room at the back. Smart, eh? Not quite, because then you get the tollway running through your room. I tried one miserable night, with no success. Back down again, pretty much ready to check-out. A very kind person at the front desk put me on the 2nd floor, as he knew the noise was less there (clearly a common complaint of the customers). Indeed, the (lack of) noise was much better.

The rooms (I saw 3) looked to have been refurbished. However, they already had an edge of being dated and cheap looking.

I did not try any of the amenities (restaurant, gym, etc).

The highlight of the hotel were the staff, who were all very friendly and helpful.
