It's worth noting that they have great kid suites...the kids get their own room with two twin beds, some toys, bean-bag chairs, and a stepstool for the sink the bathroom, to name just a few things. (The suite is decorated by Pottery Barn Kids!) Then the adults are in the adjoining room, enjoying some peace and quiet. We REALLY enjoyed it. And the room-service breakfasts were pretty fantastic too. But mostly it's the service that makes this such a well-reviewed place...everyone is ridiculously nice.

We were warmly welcomed and even offered complimentary glasses of champagne while we checked in. The room was nice and the bathroom was extremely spacious however, the sheets were kind of scratchy and not as soft as those found in a five star hotel.

When we left, we wanted to grab breakfast and the concierge promptly printed out a map to a great local breakfast restaurant that was fantastic.

I have to agree with the others; parking is an issue. When we arrived we parked in the nearest garage and were surprised to see there was a charge. However, when we left the gates were opened and we weren't charged. It seemed there was a wedding going on and that may be why we weren't charged for parking.

This hotel needs help. Rooms are dated colonial decor that look straight out of a bad Ethan Allen catalog. Carpet had stains. Bathroom looked like a Holiday Inn.

Concierge service was poor. Asked to speak to a manager about a problem but was told he was on a conference call and too busy to talk to us. Manager never followed up.

Breakfast at the restaurant was overpriced and service slow.
There are a lot of hotels in Houston, stay somewhere else.

Stayed here for a business trip in September 2007. Had a guaranteed late check in, and almost didn't have room - apparently they had overbooked but a no-show allowed me to have a space.

I later heard there were many overbooked guests who didn't get a room - and most other hotels were full. I didn't hear fully how they were accomodated, though there were some reportedly tense conversations for guaranteed rooms.

Once you get a room, the property is nice. Not great, not bad - just nice. There are nice touches throughout - like champagne upon arrival, a helpful front of house staff, and courteous managers. They have a free town car service within 3 miles of the property - which at times turns into a stretch limo if town cars are booked.

What I think most people respond to is the dated look - there are features that speak to its prominent past - which are ok today though you can tell there haven't been substantial upgrades in a while.

My room was nice - somewhat dated, though comfortable and offered a very nice bed. Housekeeping service was efficient and thorough during my stay. If you sign up for an Omni guest program, internet in the room is free (vs $9.95/day), though it is slower at times.

Food at the hotel was good - nice portions and respectable prices. Sure you could get better elsewhere, though if you needed a nice meal, it was right there and convenient. Breakfast buffet offered good choices and attentive service.

So, it's not a new, shiny, state of the art property. It shows as somewhat dated. However, the service during my stay was very good - Omni has some good people that help make for enjoyable stays.

NOTE: there is some construction adjacent to the restaurant, and apparently they are building a larger banquet facility. There were some vibrations as the earthmovers were working during the day - not sure how long it will last, and it wasn't a huge deal. However, if you are sensitive to this, stay on the side of the hotel that is away from the restaurant/conference center.

I booked a room during our Labor day weekend get away; however, I was disappointed upon arrival. The hotel is old and in need of renovation. There were not enough outlets to plugin coffee maker. The bottom of the swimming pool was peeling off. My two kids did not get their goodie bags as mentioned with the promotion. Service was not needed at all. I will not recommend this hotel until major renoviations are completed.

  • Liked — breakfast was good, but needed to pay for my two children
  • Disliked — room was smaill and limited
