My wife and I decided to use Hilton points to spend a weekend away and near our favorite restaurant, Gabacho's near this hotel. On line, we could only reserve two queen beds. I am a gold level at Hilton, but to my pleasant surprise we were upgraded to the top level, overlooking the lake and given a king bed. Instead of feeling we were less appreciated due to this being an award stay this hotel and the staff made us feel we were "special" because of our gold status. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and the bed extremely comfortable. I went to the restaurant for take out coffee and when I asked how much I was told in a pleasant manner, don't worry about it. The pool was small, but comfortable and has an excellent view of the lake. The breakfast buffet was very nice, although we only had the continental breakfast which consisted of the cold foods, but included salmon. We will definetly be returning.

The only complaint, and it is indicative of how excellent the stay was, is the coffee at breakfast in the restaurant (and not the complimentary urn for self service) was the second worse coffee I have had. (The distinct worst was every hotel coffee I have had in Norway.)

Traveled with boyfriend and friends. Very expensive for only one night, but it was nice and luxurious so it was worth it :) Beds are nice and firm and sheets are soft. Lots of pillows! Great night sleep. Neat floor to ceiling windows. Right on the water and next to a para-sailing place .

May 30, 2009 | Trip type: Family

Our family of three decided to go to Houston for a weekend to see some culture and sights. We looked at hotels online and chose this Hilton based on beautiful photos on their website, the Hilton reputation and its proximity to sights we would visit. It was a disappointment.
While the location is nice (on the lake, very close to the Space Center), the hotel was NOT up to Hilton standards and the restaurant was downright terrible.
We stepped off the elevator on our floor and were greeted by what can only be described as piles of dust and dirt - as if something had been sitting there for years and they recently moved it - only they didn't vaccuum. Frankly, the housekeeping in the rooms wasn't much better. Also, the room were laid out so poorly that you you couldn't open the door and enter the bathroom area at the same time - very cramped quarters. The rooms didn't have refrigerators, or even fans in the bathroom - which is survivable, but not usual for a Hilton. And I think they must have put us on the "family" floor as our room had connecting doors to the rooms next door on both sides of us, and the family in the room next to us could be heard as if the doors were wide open.
As we have a young child, we decided to dine in the hotel restaurant that evening. The service was wonderful, but the food left much to be desired. The worst was a shrimp and pasta plate - when it arrived it was simply boiled pasta, with some shrimp thrown on top and swimming in what tasted like the water the shrimp had been cooked in - with no other flavor. And we paid a whopping $22 for it. And I think their key lime pie came from the frozen food section of the local Kroger.

Frankly, we've stayed at nicer Super 8's and we had a better meal at the IHOP down the street the next day, for a fraction of the cost.

Our room was clean, huge and immaculately clean. The bed was extremely comfortable as well and I liked the added touch of classical music playing when we first checked into the room. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and always ended the conversation with "Is there any other way I can assist you". I was very impressed with the fitness facility, despite it being in a temporary location. The restaurant was overpriced with mediocre food but the staff was really great!

This hotel is a typical Hilton. The only thing that stood out was the concierge level. Free drinks from 5:30 to 7:30. The hors d'oevres were always fried, with a plate of chunks of cheese/meats. Not a veggie in site, but free drinks. The room was so small it made strangers sit together and talk. Amazing concept, that we should talk to our fellow travelers.
Hotel is located directly across from Johnson Space Center, so there is a feeling of being a part of history, even if you have nothing to do with NASA. Most of their clientele is attached to the space center.
The hotel was damaged by hurricane Ike, but has recovered well. There are always staff walking around asking if there is anything they can do to make your stay more pleasant. That got old, fast. I'm an independent type and if I would like something, I ask.
There are plenty of restaurants within easy driving distance from the hotel, but keep in mind that a lot near the water have been damaged by the hurricane.
