I just stayed two days at this hotel over the Thanksgiving weekend. I received a great rate of $71.00 per night on the hotel's website. I've noticed that this hotel frequently has great rates on the weekend.
For a reduced rate, this hotel was excellent. It's an older property - - built in the early - mid 1970's at least - - it not a little older. I would not pay the rack rate for this hotel and there usually is no need to do so if you do your homework.
Service: excellent. Every staff member was polite, professional, and helpful.
Decor: Dated and in need of an update - - but in good repair. Nothing was worn out, broken, or dirty.
Room size: adequate room - - about average for a corporate hotel these days. It was not huge, but not cramped either. The room had all of the usual ammenities but did not have a mini bar or laptop safe. It was equipped with high speed internet for a fee of $9.95 per day.
Views: This hotel is surrounded by other buildings so you won't get much of a view in most rooms. My room overlooked the wall of the parking garage next door. Limited direct light into the room.
Cleanliness: Very clean - - everywhere I went, the hotel was clean and in good repair. My room and bath were very clean.
Bed: excellent. this hotel has the new Marriott bed and it's very comfortable.
Restaurants: I did not use the hotel's restaurants as there were lots of options in the immediate area.
Concierge Lounge: Fairly typical of Marriott Concierge Lounges. It was clean, comfortable and offered a very nice breakfast buffet.
Parking: $10.00 per day for self parking in a connected garage.
Location: Very good but not excellent. It's about a 20-25 minute walk to the Galleria Mall and about 15 minutes to the stores and restaurants on Post Oak. It's about a 7 to 10 minute walk to the shops and restaurants at Uptown Park. All-in-all, this is a good location that allows you to walk to lots of shopping and restaurants - - although you'll be the only one on the sidewalk. People just don't walk anywhere in Houston.
You can stay at the Westin Hotels at the Galleria or the JW Marriott at the Galleria - - or at the Hilton on Post Oak which puts you right in the middle of all the shops and restaurants there, but you'll pay a lot more. The 15 - 25 minute walk was not a problem for me as the weather was excellent. Also, the hotel has a complimentary shuttle that runs at scheduled times that can take you to the Galleria and back.
In summary, if you're willing to give up newer, more upscale furnishings and be a few minutes' walk away from shopping, this is an excellent choice. It's clean and comfortable with excellent service. I will definitely stay at this hotel if the occasion arises - - as long as I can get a discounted rate.
