I stayed at this Marriott for a conference, and it does a substantial conference and wedding business. This is my third time at the hotel.
The Good: The staff is exceptionally friendly, warm and just pleasant to be around. They really try to make you feel welcome. The location is close to some of Houston's best shopping and restaurants. The food in the hotel is quite good and the bar is lively.
The not so perfect: I'm Marriott Silver and hotel failed to give me any of my standard requests related to location, pillows or towels, despite the fact that they weren't fully booked. The hotel is aging -- it looks a bit dated and the bathroom is not only small but mine was stained and had a cracked tub. Many rooms -- including mine -- look out on to a brick wall. This is also not a pedestrian friendly neighborhood (not the hotel's fault -- that's just Houston) and the parking garage is difficult to negotiate.
I appreciate how warm and friendly the staff was -- that's excellent management. But I wish they'd spend a little to update the rooms (particularly the bathrooms) and I wish they'd pay attention to my Marriott preferences.
