This hotel is wonderful!! It is right by the Galleria mall and many restaurants. The rooms are spacious and the fitness center is comprehensive. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helped to make my stay even better. You can't go wrong with this hotel choice in Houston.

I booked this hotel for two nights with mixed feelings given the reviews on this site. Our experience was much more positive than some others.

The staff here is extremely friendly and go out of their way to meet guests' needs. Our room was clean, comfortable and extremely quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good.

We appreciated the indoor garage (it isn't that far from the lobby) because it poured with rain much of the weekend. Parking was free in our reasonable AAA rate. You can avoid some of the traffic congestion from the Galleria by coming in the back way off San Pedro.

The front desk recommended Le Peep on Westheimer around the corner for a late breakfast - excellent food at reasonable prices and lots of parking.

  • Liked — Staff at the hotel were outstanding and totally relaxed.
  • Disliked — Nearby traffic - but that is to be expected in the area

Concierge Level? I Don't Think So....

As a loyal Marriott customer and rewards member, I recently booked a 1 night stay mid-week for the Houston West Loop location. I called reservations and was told that there were no regular rooms available, only concierge level rooms at a rate of $289 per night. I was told that the concierge level rooms featured upgraded amenities, larger in size, and upgraded decor. Because it was a last minute deal and I was tired from driving I booked the concierge level room.

Upon check-in, I was given my keys and headed up to the the second floor....yes- I said the 2nd floor. Is that concierge level? Of course not- typically at a Marriott, the concierge level rooms are on the upper floors and require you to use your key in the elevator. Once we entered the room I immediately realized that I was in a regular room- which typically would have been significantly less. I was not looking to stay in a concierge level room, but for the price, I expected a lot more- especially given the fact that I was told there were no regular rooms available. I immediately called reservations and the agent was shocked at my description of the room. She immediately called the front desk and had them move us to one of the true concierge level rooms. Obviously, the front desk agent assumed I didn't know any better and tried to put us into a regular room at the cost of a concierge level.

Once we moved- there was still no difference in the quality. THe only upgraded amenities were additional toiletries in the bathroom and free breakfast. (Obviously- had we kept the previous 2nd floor room we would have never had access to the concierge level dining area to utilize it). As frustrations and dissatisfaction increased, we decided to call nearby Hotel ZaZa to see if they had any availabilities.

We were shocked when we were told there were rooms available for $20 less than the crappy room at the Marriott. See my glowing review of Hotel ZaZa. As a repeat Marriott guest, I am totally disappointed and disgusted at the level of service and quality of room that was offered to me and plan to contact Marriott regarding it.

Overall this hotel looks and feels a bit dated. The ambiance in the hotel is more that of a conference center. The rooms are on the small side and in my case I had a number small bit's of plaster that came off , and some loose tiles in the bathroom. It just doens't look to nice (it's not that bad but you do notice it). The beds & the rest of the furniture are okay. Beware of your room rate & the service you get. I booked a room with breakfast & parking included. You can however get breakfast at the lobby restaurant or the concierge lounge, the last one is still a paid breakfast. For the parking I did not get a free exit ticket at check-in I had to go back and claim it. The hotel location is real close to the galleria mall and there's a numbe rof restaurant within a short distance. During peak hours the whole loop road (where the hotel is located on) is crowded and it's really hard to get back
to the hotel.

I often stay at this hotel when I am in Houston for business. The service is excellent and they are great when planning for meetings in their conference rooms. The location is central and they offer female guests traveling alone valet parking at the self parking rate. That is a definite plus!
