As a loyal Marriott customer and rewards member, I recently booked a 1 night stay mid-week for the Houston West Loop location. I called reservations and was told that there were no regular rooms available, only concierge level rooms at a rate of $289 per night. I was told that the concierge level rooms featured upgraded amenities, larger in size, and upgraded decor. Because it was a last minute deal and I was tired from driving I booked the concierge level room.
Upon check-in, I was given my keys and headed up to the the second floor....yes- I said the 2nd floor. Is that concierge level? Of course not- typically at a Marriott, the concierge level rooms are on the upper floors and require you to use your key in the elevator. Once we entered the room I immediately realized that I was in a regular room- which typically would have been significantly less. I was not looking to stay in a concierge level room, but for the price, I expected a lot more- especially given the fact that I was told there were no regular rooms available. I immediately called reservations and the agent was shocked at my description of the room. She immediately called the front desk and had them move us to one of the true concierge level rooms. Obviously, the front desk agent assumed I didn't know any better and tried to put us into a regular room at the cost of a concierge level.
Once we moved- there was still no difference in the quality. THe only upgraded amenities were additional toiletries in the bathroom and free breakfast. (Obviously- had we kept the previous 2nd floor room we would have never had access to the concierge level dining area to utilize it). As frustrations and dissatisfaction increased, we decided to call nearby Hotel ZaZa to see if they had any availabilities.
We were shocked when we were told there were rooms available for $20 less than the crappy room at the Marriott. See my glowing review of Hotel ZaZa. As a repeat Marriott guest, I am totally disappointed and disgusted at the level of service and quality of room that was offered to me and plan to contact Marriott regarding it.
