I can't believe the negativity of some of the reviews I have just read. We booked 2 king rooms at this hotel and it was one of the best night's sleep we had over our 2 week vacation to Texas. We had just moved on from The Omni in Corpus Christi (lovely hotel but horrible experience with noisy coach parties), hence we asked for 2 quiet rooms where we could catch up with our sleep before heading back to the UK. There was absolutely nothing to complain about in this hotel. Both rooms were clean and a decent size. The bathroom was good as the wash basin/dressing area was separate from the bath/toilet area. The bed was beautiful and sooo comfortable. The bed linen all new crisp and white, fluffy pillows and fab down duvet. Also included in the room - coffee/tea facilities, huge flat screen tv, dressing gown and a selection of good quality toiletries. The staff were so welcoming and obliging when we arrived, explaining everything we needed to know. The reception area was beautiful with huge tv screens in separate areas showing a variety of programmes. The pool was small but ideal for crashing out for an hour and the gym was extremely well equipped - even providing head phones, bottled water and apples! The breakfast (which was included in our deal) was brilliant. Maybe us Brits are less particular than the Americans when it comes to eating but nothing was too much trouble for the lovely Spanish waitress who waited on our table. Tea, Coffee, juice, pancakes (delightfully decorated with fresh fruit and warm syrup) and everything you could possibly need from a hot breakfast buffet. I just get so disgusted with the amount of food people pile on their plates and just leave. Our party of 4 ate every morsel and enjoyed it too. We visited the Galleria Shopping Mall which was over the road and picked up some last minute shopping and had a nice evening meal in The Cheesecake Factory. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the Galleria area and would definitely use it again.

On a one night business trip. The location for Galleria and for businesses around that area is unbeatable. The hotel itself is decent enough; breakfast was good, the room itself was nice. What let the place down was (a) the bathrooms which are tiny and sparse and more Courtyard than JW Marriott; (b) the lobby, which is again not really up to a JW standard, rather more regular Marriott like; and (c) the business center, where it cost me $64 dollars to print out 30 pages and surf the internet for 30 minutes. Overall, would recommend only if you need to be in the Galleria area. If not, there are better value hotels in downtown.

I was in town for business, a conference on premises at the hotel (actually, due to construction, the main ballroom requires exiting the hotel and re-entering a separate building, but no big deal) and was pleased with the overall experience.

Its greatest asset is location, uptown Houston, directly across the street from the Galleria and almost adjacent to a nice shopping center with a Grand Lux Cafe. Walking to the Galleria is a cinch and there is a Walgreens drugstore across the street for any last minute items forgotten at home.

Service standards are up to that of a JW. Front-desk staff was friendly, recognized my Elite status and breezed through the check-in process. It was raining while I was in town and the hotel offered nice touches that one expects from a high-end hotel, like loaning me an umbrella to walk across the street.

The room was recently renovated with a flat screen television and Marriott's business work-station with all kinds of connections for your laptop and other electronic devices.

My only complaint is that there is no longer free parking in the lot across the street. Marriott bought the lot and now charges the same rate as the underground parking garage. I would have thought that at least a surface lot would be priced lower, but I guess not. Oh well, that is a minor complaint.

When back in Houston, I will stay again.

I was disgusted with this hotel! I was there for five nights, and the last night was itching extremely badly ... only to find out I had bitten about forty times by bed bugs! My lumph node swelled really badly; I had to take Benadryl to go to sleep for several weeks afterward due to the intense pain. I reported the incident, and they said they'd get back to me. After about the fifth call I had to make to follow up, as they seemingly do not care if their guests are being bitten by bugs in their hotel(!), they said they didn't find anything in room 945 ... well, that's great, I but I stayed in room 1608! Get with it! After I had called about twenty times and over a month had passed, I had to call once again, and they finally came back, only to say they weren't going to do anything about it, i.e., something simple like reimburse my money, give me credit, even pay for the medical costs! DO NOT STAY HERE!
