“unscheduled airport stopover”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2010

We were put up in this hotel by Continental Airlines as our flight was delayed and we misssed our connection. The shuttle from the hotel was free and took about 15 minutes. The ladies at reception were lovely and checked us in really quickly and as usual with Doubletree we got that lovely cookie. We had vouchers for the hotel which had a value of $59 for the room so what ever rates are on the internet I am sure you could negotiate. We also ahd meal vouchers so ate in hotel as there was no where near other than a Taco Bell next door. We ate in the bar and the food was great service was great and you couldorder food til really late. Breakfast was good too, buffet style hot and cold, as usual in hotels a bit overpriced $14 but you could have eaten as much as you liked. There is a gym and an outdoor pool with hot tub, it is a bit noisy with the planes overhead but still a nice option. There is a laundry with washer and dryer for guest use. SO overall a great stopover.

We had the pleasure of hosting a conference at the DoubleTree Intercontinental Airport Hotel, and it was fabulous! The staff are committed to making sure that every detail is attended to, and that guests are completely satisfied. I highly recommend this property!

My husband & I stayed two nights. One night before we cruised and one night after our cruise. We were totally impressed with hotel the staff was very helpful giving us maps of the area. Customer service was outstanding, the rooms were simple but very very nice. Was surprised to see there was Internet excess for a small fee. Woud definetly stay at this Doubletree again. We will also look into staying at DoubleTree Hotels in So. California. We had the oppurtunity to eat at both resturants they were very good.

This hotel met our expectations and is up to Doubletree corporate standards.

The desk staff GREATLY EXCEEDED our expectations with outstanding service!

-Booked HHonors award online literally last minute while waiting for the door to close on our MSP-IAH flight- our original flight from MSP to DFW on AA on a Thursday evening was running late (this was the night DFW received a foot of snow), and we were not going to make our connection to FLL that night, so AA scrambled and found us seats on DL through IAH with an overnight stay.
Called the hotel shuttle once we landed and they were at the curb within 10 min.
Desk staff were gracious and handled the HHonors award certificate paperwork for us so that we could head to bed.
Morning shuttle departed promptly at 0500.

Note: there was roof work being done during the day, but we arrived at 2300 and departed at 0500 and thus didn't notice.

My husband was attending a business conference and I travelled with him. The hotel is quite close to the airport and operates a shuttle bus. You need to ring from the 'phone near the exit to call the bus. We did wait quite a while. They give you a warm choc chip biscuit at check-in - which is a bit gimmicky but a nice gesture. Extremely comfortable big room with huge and very comfortable double bed. Nice bathroom with Neutrogena toiletries, decent hairdryer and plenty of storage space. Armchair and good desk. The rooms are quite dark as they have tinted windows (presumably for the Texan sun) - plenty of lamps though. Also the windows don't open so you are reliant on air con - which I find pretty drying. But absolutely no fault with our room.

The restaurant is good, if somewhat featureless. Derrick's saloon is more fun and serves food and drink. The menu is reasonably varied - for those of us non-meat eaters, I thought Texas was going to be quite difficult. But if you ask in Derrick's, they will make you a vegeburger or do vegetarian fajitas which are very good! Standard Hilton style breakfast. The staff are very pleasant and very helpful. My only gripe is that the coffee shop - which is supposed to be open from 6am to 10.30am has rather arbitrary closing times and tends to pack up by 10am. We were also quite cross to find that the restaurant, which is supposed to stay open until 12noon at weekends, cleared the buffet away by 10.15am. Whether there was any service after that we don't know - but we felt rather chased out. Plenty of parking and a Thrifty and a Dollar hire car a couple of minutes walk from the hotel if you didn't book before you arrived. Also a small mall next to the hotel with a pizza parlour, chinese and a couple of other food outlets. They didn't look wonderful and we didn't try them. Lots of fast food outlets very close to the hotel (Taco Bell next door) if that is your thing. We wandered over to the Sheraton one night - but were not impressed by their menu.

The hotel is well outside Houston and a taxi would be about $40 one way - so car hire, if you want to go anywhere other than the airport - is essential. If you have a free day, try Galveston for a visit. About one hour's drive and a relaxed seaside place. Hotel has nice outside sitting area and pool for fine weather. Little gift shop with essentials and souvenirs.

Nice hotel - can thoroughly recommend.

This is the Hotel I usually use when traveling through Houston. The staff, the food, the rooms++ everything is excellent! And you get a cookie when you arrive!
One thing i really do not like though is the shower curtains! The rooms are obviously newly rebuilt, so i do find it strange that they choose to save money on the showers.

The hotel is located near IAH and the van comes and goes there frequently. Best to call them for pickup. The hotel is clean, modern, spacious, friendly, and resonably priced. The food at the bar is not all that great -- and the bar can be noisy. Overall, it is a great place to spend a night or two (e.g., after an overseas trip -- that is what we did). They might give you free wi-fi Internet if you ask. The business center has free internet. The cookies are excellent.
