My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the Hyatt. We were there for one night for our anniversary, and on arrival to check in we were told that they had a VERY nice room for us but that it was not quite ready ,but they would put us in another room if we wanted to get one immediately. We were early so this was not their fault. We decided to wait on the room they had reserved for us,which was ready in less than an hour. This gave us time to walk around and check out eveything and even looked up some info on the internet station provided at guest services. while waiting , a bellman took care of our bags for us until the room was ready.I have never stayed anywhere where so many staff were so helpful.I literally could not walk 20 feet without a staff member asking if there was anything they could help me with. When we got our room it was huge ,and CLEAN and nicely decorated with a beautiful king sleigh bed.Definately worth the wait. When the attendant on my floor noticed that i had come out of the vending area without ice, which had run out,she went down to another floor and brought some to my room. The valet parking cost 21.00 a day here ,but it was well managed and we always got our car quickly by friendly staff. We took a shuttle provided to the Astros game, which was clean and very COOL inside. The shuttle was right there afterward and we got right on and were back at our room in minutes. The exercise room is very nice with plenty of cardio machines w/ T.V.'s at most ,with chilled towells provided and one free weight station.Everything went very smoothly and we would definately stay here again.

Stayed June 6-10 with my daughter for a dance camp that was held at the hotel. We have stayed at MANY hotels where competitions and camps were going on and this one was better in several ways. They had many elevators and they were all FAST-when several hundred girls all are trying to get to their rooms at once-this was very pleasant. The staff at the hotel from the front desk to the service desk, to the resturant workers were all pleasant and helpful and accomadating. The maids were friendly and did wonderful jobs considering the kids left clothes, dance shoes, half eaten food, etc everywhere. The hotel had plenty of rooms to use for practice, also the basement area so other guests of the hotel weren't stepping over or around girls stretching out or practicing. The pool on the 6th floor was a nice place to get away and take a break from everything and the exercize room was clean, cool, had water, towels and plenty of equipment. The BIG MINUS-no insulation/sound proofing between the rooms. Not only could you hear guests walking down the carpeted hallway in flipflops, but the activity of the man and woman in the room next door was so loud that I felt like they were in the same room with me. At first we laughed but as the noise went on and on and on (Viagra?) my teen age daughter got so embarrassed that she had to leave the room. And it wasn't like they were screaming, it was moaning that made it through the walls, even our TV turned up couldn't mask the sound. A hotel this nice sure blew it by cutting corners in this area. I want a room where I can sleep at night

Stayed four nights for a conference. Staff was helpful, but the carpets in the room were filthy. The room is comparable to, but not as clean as, a room at the LaQuinta. Four or five one minute phone calls by my daughter from the room added up to almost $50.00 with surcharges. $7-10 per call. It is a convenient downtown location, but the surcharges associated with services most other chains offer as a free service destroy its value. This is my second stay this year at this hotel and i would not reccommend it unless you are forced to stay there by business neccessity.

Worth it if you find a good Hotwire rate

Though a local, I've stayed here on weekends a couple of times when concerts/events were going on at the Toyota Center downtown. You can occasionally nab a rate of around $80-$90/night on Hotwire during the weekends. If you can grab a good rate on Hotwire or another site (under $100/night or so), the Hyatt makes a decent stay. The rooms are nice and clean - beds comfortable - service is decent. The Hyatt has a very nice bar in the lobby which actually gets quite busy on the weekends. The location is very convienient - cabs are always available and for a few bucks you can get anywhere in the downtown area, and the hotel has a shuttle service as well.

There are a couple of significant drawbacks to be aware of though. Number one without a doubt is the valet parking. The Hyatt charges $21 for this "amenity". The major issue here though is not just the charge, its the fact that the valet parking is so unbelieveably SLOW! On one Sunday it took the valets over an hour to retrieve my car! Average time is probably 20-30 minutes, unacceptable in my opinion.

The other drawback is just the general crowded, packed feeling this hotel has. The Hyatt in Downtown Houston is usually overrun with people on the weekends with numerous conventions, weddings, activities going on all at once. Guess it makes it interesting at the same time. But if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful hotel stay this is not the place for you.

The rooms here are perfectly fine. But the service could use some improvement. My room service order showed up incomplete. The valet phone wasn't answered when it came time to check out for my early morning flight. Even the front desk had trouble reaching them. I waited 20 minutes for my car. NOT worth the price they charge for valet service.

Otherwise, the hotel was clean and comfortable but at the price I was forced to pay that was just not enough.
