Though a local, I've stayed here on weekends a couple of times when concerts/events were going on at the Toyota Center downtown. You can occasionally nab a rate of around $80-$90/night on Hotwire during the weekends. If you can grab a good rate on Hotwire or another site (under $100/night or so), the Hyatt makes a decent stay. The rooms are nice and clean - beds comfortable - service is decent. The Hyatt has a very nice bar in the lobby which actually gets quite busy on the weekends. The location is very convienient - cabs are always available and for a few bucks you can get anywhere in the downtown area, and the hotel has a shuttle service as well.

There are a couple of significant drawbacks to be aware of though. Number one without a doubt is the valet parking. The Hyatt charges $21 for this "amenity". The major issue here though is not just the charge, its the fact that the valet parking is so unbelieveably SLOW! On one Sunday it took the valets over an hour to retrieve my car! Average time is probably 20-30 minutes, unacceptable in my opinion.

The other drawback is just the general crowded, packed feeling this hotel has. The Hyatt in Downtown Houston is usually overrun with people on the weekends with numerous conventions, weddings, activities going on all at once. Guess it makes it interesting at the same time. But if you're looking for a quiet, peaceful hotel stay this is not the place for you.

The rooms here are perfectly fine. But the service could use some improvement. My room service order showed up incomplete. The valet phone wasn't answered when it came time to check out for my early morning flight. Even the front desk had trouble reaching them. I waited 20 minutes for my car. NOT worth the price they charge for valet service.

Otherwise, the hotel was clean and comfortable but at the price I was forced to pay that was just not enough.

I stayed at this hotel on a Friday and Saturday night. First impressions were very impressive, the lobby area is spacious, and has a very upmarket feel to it. Staff are also very friendly.

This hotel is supposed to be in the middle of a renovation, but you would not notice, not a builder in site. I stayed up on the 23rd floor, a floor which had been renovated. The room was bright, views of Houston very also very good., however, apart from the bathroom, which was very nice, the rooms do not really look all that renovated compared to the hotel I stayed in at during the week, but on the other hand they were not dirty either. I didn’t spend too much time in my room so this didn’t really bother me. Internet access is also not complimentary which is a shame. Also the shower can feel quite claustrophobic with the curtain drawn.

If you suffer from a fear of heights this may not be the hotel for you as I believe the only elevators they have are either glass fronted onto the lobby or onto the pavement outside.

I was a guest at the Hyatt Regency Houston for a convention of my nonprofit in March 2006.

Being a Gold Passport member faciltated a no-delay check-in, and I was quickly in my 16th floor room. I found it to be clean and of average size. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. Air conditioning worked quite well. The in-room coffeemaker came supplied with two packets of grounds, a nice touch if you want some extra "joe". High-speed wireless internet access was available for $9.95/day, and worked quite well.

Have to agree with previous comments about noise, though. My room was right by the elevator and people talking while waiting for the lift could be clearly heard in the room. Noise from the atrium was not a problem for me during my stay.

I only ate breakfast in the restaurant downstairs, and was well satisfied. Their omelette station is impressive. We had some meals in the hotel as part of our convention package, and they, too, were good.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They made my stay pleasant.

My recent stay here at this hotel was a disappointment. This Hyatt seems to have problems with cleanliness. Once checked in and into our room, I discover dirty towels on the floor from the previous guest. The air conditioner vent has black soot around it, looks like it’s never been cleaned. Stains on the carpet, used soap bar in tub, need I go on? I called front desk to have dirty towels removed, when back in my rooms a few hours later after dinner they were still there, had to call again.
The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable, furniture in the rooms were in need of update.
Another issue is the parking. You can self park at a lot across the street for 16.00 with out in/out privileges or pay Hyatt 21.00 + tax to valet your vehicle , they seem to have you over a barrel here since it would be wise not to park your car in an unprotected lot in Downtown Houston.
The breakfast buffet is very small and cost 15.00 a person….they have someone making omelets but as for other breakfast items not much of a selection.
On a positive note, the air conditioner worked well and kept the room cool.
This is a very busy hotel and saw many different groups, (youth soccer teams, and large family reunions) the staff was pleasant but had a hard time controlling the teens in the lobby area which were running wild and throwing food. Only half of the elevator banks were working which lead to a pile up of people trying to get back to their rooms. I don’t think ill stay at this hotel again, it just didn’t feel clean to me, the kind of place you wonder how clean the sheets might be. If staying in Downtown Houston, I suggest Hilton Americas. Much cleaner and better staff.
