Had to stay in Houston overnight after a flight was cancelled. There are dozens of off property hotels near the airport, but since I had an early flight out, I chose the Airport Marriott. It was about 50%-75% more than the off-airport hotels, but I thought that it would be worth it for the convenience - NOT. To get to the hotel you have to go down an escalator from the baggage claim, get on a train for a quick ride (once the train gets there) to the hotel. Then it's up a floor to the lobby. I was placed in the old South Tower which is down a long hallway, down an escalator, then up an elevator to your room. I started to put my shirts in the closet and promptly smashed my toe on a door stop that was imbedded into the carpet. After the pain subsided, it was time to write a review.
The front desk area loooks like an afterthought - like they built the hotel and then said "shoot - we forgot to put in a registration desk. Let's throw up a counter over here!" My room was on the first floor, with a window view of the airport. That is, it would have a window view if someone would wash the windows. I'm not kidding. The sun was going down, and there was some glare, but I could not see out of the window because of the grime. If anyone from the hotel reads this, I was in the room over the road that all of the shuttles take from the airport. Take a look (if you can)!
OK - so I didn't get the best room. I only have to stay here one night. Just plug in my laptop and ....Wait a minute - 10 bucks a day for internet access???? How about jumping into the 90's? Paying for internet access is ridiculous. The hotel has to pay a few broadband access charges, put up a few security enabled routers, and spend a couple of grand to make thousands of guests happy. Paying for internet service is as bad as going into a hotel room and finding a 20 oz bottle of water with a big price tag on it. Hey - wait a minute. There's a bottle up on the TV. $5 for a bottle of water!!!! unbelieveable!
Back to the internet. I went down to the business center to get my email, and you have to swipe your credit card to do anything in there, including web browsing. Not me.
The hotel is undergoing some renovations. There are walls that have big patches on them and the hotel seems to be trying to get better. The renovated parts look nice. But if you ever want my business again, stop the price-plus mentality.

I have to stay here for business. I have stayed in older side twice and both times saw bugs. The first time ants, the last time a roach crawled out of the bath mat. The newer wing room was bug free. The front desk just says sorry and that is it. I would not stay here unless have to- like me! Basically dated property that you would not think is a Marriott. They have a captive audience and seem to know it.

This place is so convenient if you have to fly into Houston at a late hour! The staff is excellent and so accomodating! The restaurant named Allie's American Grill had an excellent breakfast buffett and CK's revolving restaraunt has stunning views of the airport at night and excellent dinner. My Ribeye and Asparagus were perfection!!! They also had excellent choices of wine and desert. It was a wonderful surprise to a last minute trip, and hopping on a flight that arrived in the evening. I was talking with some other guests that were there on business and they were very pleased with their business center and banquet halls for their presentations. I would definately stay there again! Highly recommended.

I chose the Marriott due to its location, and based on some kind reviews here. I found the hotel very unusual, sitting as it does in between terminals at the Centre of the airport - you kind of get the feeling you're still in the terminal. I wasn't impressed with check-in, staff didn't seem bothered at all, and the walk to the South tower lift wasn't inspiring, the lift was lifeless and old - in fact I felt most of the public areas were still in the late '70s.

The room was better though, with a modern feel and exceptional bed comfort; bathroom typical i.e. basic but funcional; TV full of channels and in-room movie option; room service available; coffee machine.

Being an avid agent on Trip Advisor led me to my usual walkabout with the camera - but at the reception I was greeted by a uniformed official, who asked me to stop taking pictures. Charming I thought. But, USA being the way it is today I didn't question or try to justify myself. Instead I will mention it here....do not take any pictures outside of the privacy of your own rooms!!!!

Aside from that, I still think this hotel is dated, overpriced and despite the nice bed, not worth a second look.

My new Husband and I had an early flight out for our honeymoon the morning after our wedding so we decided the best place to stay would be the Marriot at the airport. When we arrived at about midnight we were left waiting for the front desk lady to check us in for about thirty minutes while we stood there in our wedding dress and tux with full honeymoon luggage. Did I mention we were the only ones trying to check in at the time? When we finally got to our room we found that instead of the king size bed we had requested in our reservation she had put us into a double bed room. After a trip back down to the lobby we were able to get our king size room, but there was some sort of scraping noise in the walls all night long. We were so exhausted we just accepted it, but I’ll never stay there again.
