“Great Accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

This hotel is easy to get to with beautiful accommodations. We opted to upgrade our room and it was well worth the money. The room had a separate bedroom with king-size bed, nice linens, good climate control and great view from each room. It also had two bathrooms and separate small kitchen.
Check-in was quick and the representative made us feel very welcomed. This hotel is in good proximity to the highway and a short walking distance to the ballpark. I would definitely recommend this hotel when staying in Houston.

Dear guest,
Thank you for the wonderful feedback regarding your recent stay with us. You must have been in one of our newly renovated Ambassador suites, which I must say is one of my favorite rooms. Glad you enjoyed it!
We are lucky to be in such a central location as it makes us very convenient to many Houston attractions. I’m happy you took the opportunity to explore the area.
Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!
Kind regards,
Elysia Sutherland

Nice property, but the people are just outstanding. Don't know I've ever stayed anywhere that had a more outgoing staff.
Room was spacious and will appointed, except for one thing--the desk chair did not have castors or wheels, just small round foot pads, that made it extremely difficult to adjust in the thick carpet. Very strange.

While eating at the hotel’s bar, I called a popular local restaurant trying to get a dinner reservation for that evening for my husband’s birthday at 7pm – I was told that the only reservation available was 9:45. I went over to the concierge’s desk and explained that I was looking for an earlier reservation at this restaurant, and asked if there anything they might be able to do to help me. Even though I wasn’t a guest at the hotel, the concierge got on the phone, called the restaurant and put me on a VIP waiting list. When I arrived at the restaurant later that night, I was seated within 20 minutes (instead of the hour plus for the standard waiting list). I was impressed with the level of service the hotel provides, even for non-guests.

I have stayed here many times and the service and rooms were always impeccable as I usually stay for a week at a time. The beds are extremely comfortable as the linens have a nice thread count. The views are spectacular. The restaurants are also very good.

We stayed on a Saturday night in an executive room for a week-end get-a-way. The rooms are very nice, clean and well appointed. The beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the brunch the next morning. The staff we had contact with were all so friendly. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a stay in downtown Houston.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This is a very nice hotel, but a little disappointing for a Four Seasons. Hotel is immaculately clean, but dated in style both from the lobby to guest rooms. Bed comfort is luxurious, no complaints about that, but bathrooms style is very dated. Although the vanity is granite, the rooms have old style tub showers and strange that they have seamless glass doors on the tub. It's awkward to open the door and get in and out, and you hit your elbow on the handle of the door when you are in the shower. If you must have a tub shower go with a curved shower rod and high quality waterproof cloth shower curtain. Staff was courteous when you asked for something, but not cordial when meeting you at other times. In fact, I have stayed at two Four Seasons and two Ritz Carlton's recently and the Ritz is far and above better on staff courtesy and room quality. Every employee at the Ritz greats you with eye contact and a warm hello, at the Four Seasons every employee ignores you unless you specifically ask them for something (and it is not a cultural thing in different cities, the Ritz was in Phili, if you have nice people in Phili, you should certainly have them in Houston!) In addition, at the Four Seasons Houston the staff is not cognizant of proper behavior around guests. For example, the back of the house door on my floor (9th) near the elevators was propped open the entire three days I was at the hotel. Once I clearly overheard a group of housekeepers back in that room talking disparagingly about the “group of slobs in room XXX”. While working out in the fitness center one morning two security guards came through at 5:30am and were talking so loud for an extended period of time I could clearly hear them with my headphones on. These are not all big issues, but they are representative of the employee attitude towards guest at the hotel. The final annoyance was we asked for an inexpensive comp run of the house room for one night, we were denied. I actually understand saying no to a client asking for something for free, but you know what, our group just spent $100,000 on rooms and F&B at the hotel, so denying a cheap comp is a bad business decision, it is something we will remember when we come back to Houston. I will end on a positive, the F&B was top notch; the food was outstanding at every turn!

Philippe L, Manager at Four Seasons Hotel Houston, responded to this review, March 21, 2013
Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your observations regarding your recent stay at Four Seasons Houston. Feedback such as yours is important as it affords us the best opportunity to make improvements where necessary and better serve our clients. However, I would like to extend my sincerest apologies for your disappointment, as it appears that we missed several chances to demonstrate the special Four Seasons guest experience that is our primary goal. I was particularly concerned with the inappropriate staff comments that you overheard, and rest assured that this issue has been addressed with the respective managers for follow-up. Additionally, it was regrettable to learn that our staff did not respond with their usual warm hospitality and sensitivity, as they are typically a very dedicated and caring group of people devoted to pleasing our guests.

It was a pleasure to read your gratifying compliments about our food presentation, and I took pride in sharing your praise with the F&B team. Your patronage is valuable, and I hope that you will allow us another chance to regain your confidence in Four Seasons Houston. Along those lines, please feel free to reach out to me directly at philippe.larrieu@fourseasons.com when your travels bring you back.

Kind regards,
Philippe Larrieu

This is my preferred hotel when taking a trip Downtown. I stayed here with my 3 children (6,6,14) and they made it super special for the children. They were met with a wagon to choose a stuffed animal and that just started the special stay! We had a small issue (that was of no fault of the hotel necessarily) with our initial suite and they immediately changed us to another room. The bellman was immediately available and moved us promptly. I had requested a separate refrigerator in which to store medication. By the time we had made the trip from the old room to the new room (maybe 10 min??) we walked into them installing the fridge. Very impressed! The kids were also brought popcorn and drinks upon our arrival. We stepped out for a bit and returned to yet again another treat for the children! Cookies and milk, along with a note for them to call for the "candy wagon". At this point they were already completely spoiled!
Dinner at Quattro was yummy as usual and the chef sent out special "appetizers" for the littles. They were even invited back to the kitchen to meet the Chef and got special chef hats.
We enjoyed the pool and the spa as well and both were great. The portions utilizing room service are more than enough to share (breakfast) and the staff great as well. Our order was later than expected and the manager called and offered a super sweet and sincere apology.
I love the area... walking distance to Lucky Strike and House of Blues and the park. Metro is close so you can zip down to the museums if you want. When we are kid free we always visit the Foundation Room and the Four Season concierge is more than happy to get you on the guest list.
Love this place!
