We had a last minute trip to Houston for a funeral. We got a great rate for three nights at this hotel via Priceline. We were treated very well upon check-in and asked if we preferred a king bed (rather than the two doubles that Priceline booked). We also requested a room with an outside view versus having our room window looking into the atrium.

Despite what was said in a previous review not all of the rooms have atrium views. In fact probably only about a third of the rooms face the interior so if you prefer more privacy from your window and view of the surrounding area just ask. I do agree that in atrium view rooms you would need to keep your curtains closed for any privacy so those rooms are probably quite dark. We had a decent view (see photo) from our west facing 4th floor room and it was very sunny.

We had a nice room with a very comfortable bed and pillows. Small bathroom but with great Bath and Body Works products and a long granite counter with lots of space for our things. It had the standard size tub/shower combo with a curved shower rod.

It did not have a refrigerator or mini bar but did have a coffee maker with coffee supplied daily. We had good maid service and our tips were rewarded with double coffee and Bath and Body Works products each day. I also requested robes which were promptly delivered.

This hotel is in a great location off Westheimer with many restaurants nearby, not too far from the Galleria and is just a block off Beltway 8 for easy access in and out of town. Free self parking is available in a very large lot.

On Sunday afternoon they have a wonderful Jazz combo playing in the lobby for the brunch crowd. The lobby is nice for sitting and reading. Besides the main restaurant and bar there is a small Starbucks coffee shop. We didn't use the pool but both the indoor and outdoor pool areas look nice. The outdoor pool area is well landscaped to give it a feeling of privacy. Our only complaint was there is NO free wifi anywhere in the hotel. In-room internet was $9.95 but was very poor slow service.

Upon checking out the clerk said our bill included a meal which we did not eat. He doubled checked the receipt and found it was billed to the wrong room so of course he promptly removed the charge. Everyone we dealt with on the staff was very pleasant.

We would return to this hotel if we are back in the Houston area. On a previous visit we stayed at the Hilton near the Galleria which we also liked but the traffic in that area is worse and the hotels there charge for parking.

If you stay here, definitely go swimming to see their pool. They have a fun indoor/outdoor pool.

The room was large and luxurious.

I didn't enjoy the dining, but it could be because I'm a vegetarian and this is Texas. Anything without meat was full of fat and cream, and I had a hard time finding something healthy and vegetarian.

Finally a real Package. I found the Memorial City Mall package. Had a bit of trouble booking it, as I was told I couldn't get the Mall Gift Certificate until the next day. Problem solved quickly by the General Manager.
What a deal. Nice room, great beds. Water took a while to get hot enough. $100 Gift Certificate that you just bring to the Mall Customer service desk, No Problems with the certificate at all. We were at the mall on Dec 24th. You get a card and can use it at 99% of the stores. 2 breakfast buffets included. No buffet was available on Dec 25, but they gave us choice of the menu without any extra charge. 2 starbuck coffees also included in the package. So the real room cost was only $45. First let me say all the nice things - this was a typical Marroitt hotel - the bed was awesome, the staff was friendly, helpful and polite and the rooms were clean.

About a $100 cab fare from the George Bush Airport (including tip). Take the toll road.

This hotel has tried very hard to hide the fact that it is very dated and has done a good job by keeping it clean/well-maintaned and the bed linens modern. From the light-up glass elevators looking into the lobby to the rainbow colored LED lights constantly flashing across the ceiling - I could just feel that this hotel had seen better days.

O! And my favorite part! I almost forgot - there were no ouside views. The hotel is retangular and most of the rooms look in on one another - through the enclosed lobby. It was so dark - even at noon that I had to turn on the lights!

The bathtub faucet was ancient and was difficult to use. The hotel business center was a little dated and closed around 11 - for security purposes, I suppose.

The healthclub was adequate to good but was getting crowded around 5:30 - 6:00am. Possibly more machines are needed?

The eateries downstairs were a 4-6 on a scale of 10. Not awful but nothing to brag about. I chose very basic food - cold sandwiches mostly.

Overall I would stay here again if I was only on business. If you are looking for a luxurious hotel to spend some leisure time - this may not be the best choice.

Cabs were easy to come by but I left the hotel before rush hour everyday.
