Description: CAFE MEZZA & GRILLE , introduces a new concept of dining to the Houston restaurant connoisseur. Mezza, meaning "appetizer" in Arabic, is an American cuisine with a Mediterranean flair that pushes the edge in flavors, innovations, and style. Having operated a major Houston restaurant, owner and Chef Mike Tibi opens his first sole venture combining the traditional American Bistro design with elements of his own native Syria. What came to fruition is a casual cafe and grille enriched with delectable sandwiches, pastas and salads interspersed with flavorful Mediterranean grilles. "My menu has something for everyone; hearty pastas, traditional American sandwiches, fresh homemade soups and salads. While at the same time we have marinated grilled kabobs, steaks, and "mezzas" or assorted Mediterranean appetizers such as hummus and baba ganooch," says Mike. "The food is healthy while being delicious and filling. If the body of the restaurant is American it is Mediterranean by heart and soul." The food at Cafe Mezza & Grille is nothing short of perfection-in its flavor, preparation, presentation and personality. Creative use of herbs and spices lend a distinguished flavor to the grilled steaks and kabobs. There is an unmistakable touch of Mediterranean, especially where the distinct aromas of saffron, parsley and other regional spices come through. There too is a touch of California with a stunning array of freshly prepared grilled vegetables, sun-dried tomatoes and expertly prepared chicken and seafood. Homemade dressings and sauces tantalize the taste buds on heaping portions of fresh pasta and salads. The dishes are so rich and savory it's easy to forget you are eating healthy (which will allow you to splurge for one of their heavenly desserts). Cafe Mezza & Grille isn't just known for the food though. To many, Cafe Mezza & Grille is the kind of restaurant (to borrow a line from a popular television show) "where everybody knows your name." It's a familiar place to crawl into a booth and find a little soothing familiarity. It's not uncommon to find Mike himself taking your order or cooking your food. The Tibi "something for everyone" philosophy doesn't stop in the folds of the menu. Cafe Mezza & Grille is a split personality of atmospheres that can run from a romantic table for two in a cozy booth off to the side to a table outside on a stunning patio with views of the bustle and excitement of the busy city street out front.

“Great experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

First thing you notice when you enter is the service quality. Everyone is working. They are fast and good. Then you notice the nice smell of a good restaurant.

Food was great. Try the Shrimp Campechana. Nice flavor blend of Grilled Shrimp and Sweets.

Only thing that can be better is ambience. And I don't mean that it's not good, but the great food and service you get don't relate to the mix of cafeteria - restaurant look you walk into.

“Fusion that almost works”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012 via mobile

We went early (7pm) on a Saturday. Slow but it filled up. The thin pita chips are good and the dipping sauce is tasty but I would have liked it better if the herbs were not dried. I just mixed it up with the oil and it worked for me. We had fried calamari as an appetizer. It was greasy and a bit chewy. The cooked "Mediterranean salsa" with black olives and capers saved it. We split a mango stuffed chicken entree. It was plenty for 2 and very rich. The grilled veggies were, well, grilled veggies. The mango butter sauce was overkill rich and I just don't get escalloped potatoes on this plate. More butter and cream. The chicken was delicious. The wine special was cheap and tasty enough. I liked the idea of the entree so much that I am going to remake it at home and lighten it up. We would go here again because the menu is so interesting. It was friendly and the service was alright.

“Cooked to perfection!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

Service was superb. As soon as we were seated, a plate of thin, fried chips (pita of some sort?) with za'atar and olive oil were set in front of us. Original and very tasty. The spinach dip was excellent. A salsa and sour cream were served with it, and, while unexpected, it worked really well. Then came the entrées--best grilled tuna ever! Blackened shrimp pasta was very good, and the lamb chops were yummy, as well. A most excellent experience.
