“Highly recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2010

I just had to commend the staff on the pleasant and welcoming stay my family had at the Medical Center Mainstay Hotel. The staff was very attentive to everyones needs, the breakfasts were delicious, the rooms were clean and the transportation to the medical center was such a bonus! From the young lady that continued to fill the breakfast buffet daily to the bus drivers, Sam and Ed, they made a very stressful life changing medical procedure bearable and even made us laugh. From their knowledge of the area to the professionalism they provided, I will highly recommend this establishment to anyone that must have medical treatment in Houston. Thank you for a wonderful experience! Sandra

We stayed six nights in order for my daughter to compete in public speaking, livestock judging and show her cow/calf in the heifer show. Had a double queen room. I little small but workable. Night bathroom. Very comfortable beds. Kitchen was good. Bring a crock pot if you are staying a while. No oven. Two burners and a large refrigerator. Free shuttle service every 30 minutes to Reliant Park for the stockshow. This is very handy if you are not lucky enough to get a parking pass. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good also. Laundry room came in handy. Nice gym. Price to stay is reasonable. We won't be back next year since my daughter is a senior but I will recommend it to others in her FFA chapter.

The rooms are very clean. Staff was very courteous and accommodating. Regular beds are comfortable;however, the sleeper sofa mattresses are atrocious. Loved the fact that king bed was in a separate room but the sofa mattress was awful. Switched to another room the next day and was no better. Will stay again but will just get a room with 2 beds instead. Shuttle service was wonderful!!! Breakfast was good and facility was very clean. Would recommend to anyone if you need to be in this area and will stay again.

We cannot say enough about this wonderful hotel and staff. They went out of their way to accomodate our every need. A VERY clean facility. Beautiful room setting with every need met. Positve staff, very friendly. Would transport you anywhere you want to go within five miles. Breakfast staff and front desk staff were AWESOME! We cannot thank them enough for their helpfullness and kindness. They made this difficult medical trip (1,000 miles from home) less stressful. Very resonably priced. You can't go wrong if you choose to stay at his location. THANK YOU MAIN STAY/OLD SPANISH TRAIL/HOUSTON.

The best part of the deal was the complementary shuttle to and from the Medical Centre every hour.
The room had a tiny but fully equipped kitchen which was great. For those who are staying long, they even have a small selection of essentials/microwaveable eats to buy from.
I had no issues with the complementary wi-fi access and breakfast was substantial.
The one thing that is a problem is the location - does not appear to be a good part of town and recommend driving or using the shuttle to get around.

OVERALL:

Nice stay with 74 dollar medical rate and free shuttle from Hobby and 3 mile radius of hotel. Very new and clean which is why I chose it. I recommend it to anyone who wants a Nice hotel with plenty of parking, not crowded, and needs to get to any I'd the Medical buildings during your stay.

Hotel was a nice new hotel which has granite countertops and some in the bathroom which gives it a nice clean look.

Good:
clean
friendly staff
shuttle to anywhere in 3 mile radius ( which covers anything from Target Supercenter to Taco Cabana and much more)
full kitchen
free DVD rental (wide array of movies)
really nice work out room
coin laundry - clean
trying to earn your business
plenty if rooms if you need to stay extra night.

Not BAD just a consideration

breakfast - This is your basic hotel breakfast but offer odd combos. Their dish one morning was hashbrown casserole and hame strips. Next day was eggs and dry buscuits. So it left you not feeling like you had a complete breakfast.
They say they stopped breakfast at 9:30 but ran out at 9 and didn't want to make more, not sure if they did so we just left.

Walls are a little thin. Nothing unusual for a "Choice Hotel" but it doesn't bother us much.

Has HBO on the guide even has HBO schedule on table, on the site says movie channels, yet NO HBO! on t.v.???

Kitchen is a FULL kitchen but it IS small. Good size fridge, decent dishwasher, but little sink and not much counter space. Decent for light meals but couldn't do a whole lot at once.

Distance to all the restaurants and shops is 2 miles and 10 stop lights. So can be a pain for quick run to the store. But I've stayed at worse.

Neighborhood is strange. I felt Very safe on property but gas stations and convenience stores next to hotels have bars on windows and gates on front doors. But the way they are building around hear I belive this will all change eventually if not already getting there. May be the remnents of the old neighborhood as the lots around the hotel look to be abandoned or ready to be sold. Just plan on driving 2 miles or taking shuttle to get to any stores or eats. Like Taco Cabana!!

We stayed at MainStay Suites because we needed to be close to the Medical Center. We got the regular suite with a queen bed. We liked the fact that there was a "partial divider" between the bedroom and the living room. The living room had a sofa bed, chair, chest of drawers and TV set. Then there was a small kitchen with stove, microwave oven, and refrigerator. It had a coffee maker, chinaware, and some flatware. The bathroom was simple but nice.
I must say that this is not a fancy place, however, it has everything you need. One advantage that it has over other similar hotels is that the shuttle runs also on the weekend. They have a small gym and also coin-operated washers and dryers, as well as a small business center, where you can use their computers, printers and fax. You can also receive faxes.
The front desk staff was helpful and courteous.
Really, my only complaint is the location. You should not walk to stores or anywhere. Take the shuttle or drive a car. It is a sketchy neighborhood, like somebody else pointed out.
