We stayed at Sara's B & B from 5th to 9th April.
The house was lovely, very clean and full of interesting furniture, mostly antiques. It is an old house, which has been beautifully maintained.
The rooms were good, each individually furnished (we had the San Antonio & our friends had the Galveston room). The breakfasts were excellent, with plenty of fruit , as well as a variety of cakes, muffins & waffles. The Saturday & Sunday breakfasts were especially good!
The hosts, Connie & Bob, could not have been more helpful & pleasant, but not intrusive.
The area is quiet and safe, but you do need to drive to restaurants etc, as there is not much within walking distance. If you are used to large hotels with everything to hand, you will be disappointed, but if you want to stay somewhere different, with excellent southern hospitality, go for this one!

  • Liked — The house, area & hosts
  • Disliked — No restaurants, bars etc within walking distance

We spent 3 days here the second week of January and had a great time. We had the San Antonio Room and our friend had the Dallas. Both rooms are beautiful and the location in the Heights couldn't be better. I can see that this would be a great place for business travelers with WIFI in the rooms. Bob and Connie are wonderful hosts, friendly but never intrusive. The breakfast was a self serve continental buffet and there always was plenty of fresh fruit both whole and cut up.

I would love to stay here again if I come to Houston.

We went to Houston for a concert in July 2006 and stayed here. The location was pretty good and relatively close to the stadium. We chose this B&B because the price was lower than a lot of the other B&B's we saw.

I love the architecture of the house -- very beautiful. The hosts were nice and friendly. They offered cake and juice in the kitchen.

The rooms need to be updated. Breakfast was ok, but not the kind of great breakfasts we've had at other B&B's.

  • Liked — good location, pretty architecture
  • Disliked — outdated decor

I travel to Houston, Texas, on business once a year in the Spring. I found Sara's Bed and Breakfast on Heights Boulevard about four years ago and have stayed there on a regular basis. The owners, Bob and Connie McCreight, offer the highest degree of hospitality and service. The Inn is sparkling clean and has all the amenities I need during my 4-day stay. The Inn offers the highest quality of linens, which I deeply appreciate, and breakfast is always something I look forward to and thoroughly enjoy--they are great cooks! Please offer Mr. and Mrs. McCreight my compliments for the wonderful home away from home they offer to weary travellers.

I stayed at Sara's B&B (in the Tyler Room) for a long weekend in June (6/4/04 - 6/6/04). I've traveled a lot, throughout the U.S. and internationally, and have stayed at a variety of places. Sara's was the most disappointing place that I have stayed.

When we arrived, the check-in was disorganized and unhelpful (so much for southern hospitality!). The room was warm and muggy -- yes this was Houston in June, but I would assume that air-conditioning should be able to take care of that. The private roof access was very disappointing. Once we got up to the roof, we found a deteriorating, dirty widow's walk covered with dead leaves and branches, without any chairs (not that it would have been an enjoyable place to sit in that state.) The breakfast on Sunday was wholly un-impressive.

Maybe we caught them on an off-weekend -- there was a wedding that was going on in the B&B that same weekend (on June 5) and the B&B owners may have been spending all their time and attention readying the place for that.

However, that still wouldn't explain the poorly-kept widow's walk and the hot and muggy room.

I would never recommend this place to anyone.

Management response from bobbydon, owner
(Management representative)

In response to this guests' review we find it hard to response to a complaint almost two years after the fact. While we are not perfect our main objective is to accommodate each and every guest who stays here, and had we known this guest was uncomfortable we would have made every possible arrangement to accomodate them.

We are having our 20th anniversary in business this year, not without incident, but because we address issues head on and always try to ensure the guests comfort and happiness. It is impossible to make everyone happy, but we sure try.

The room this guest stayed in, the Tyler Suite, can be warmer in the summer because of the spiral staircase leading to the 3rd level walk around balcony inside the room. Improvements have been made to the Widow's walk (walk around balcony area)in question since 2004.

In almost all cases guests are informed ahead of time that a wedding is taking place on the date of their stay, and feel sure this guest was made aware.

We pride ourselves on operating an honest and reputable business, with clean and tastefully decorated rooms, reasonable prices, and a safe place to stay, and it is why we have been in business for 20 years this August.
