We stayed at Sara's for five nights, from January 22-27th. We LOVED IT! It was our first time to Houston and this beautiful B&B was the best spot to get the charm of the city. We were in town for a Mary Kay convention and were so excited to have our convention enhanced by our stay at such a fantastic place. The Inn is beautiful furnished with fine antiques and warm hospitality.

Such a luxury experience. We sipped tea in the upstairs parlor room with all our girlfriends in the evening and talked with coffee in the front parlor room in the morning. And as we sat in the morning garden room, drinking juice and eating waffles covered in bananas in the room supplied plush robe we agreed we were receiving royal treatment. We were thrilled to know that this luxury was unbelievably economical. We stayed in the Galveston room and our girlfriends stayed in the Dallas after they moved from the Jefferson. All of the rooms were so comfortable and beautifully decorated each with it's own set of antiques and furnished according to a well thought out theme. The Dallas room had a wonderful soak tub too, so it was hard to find our friend Kathy. She loved the tub. The BEDS were super comfortable. Our innkeepers Connie and Bob were so wonderful and helpful and so attentive, any request we made they were on it.
We are asking the company to keep coming to Houston so we can get back to Sara's as soon as possible. Treat yourself to this beautiful stay. It is a wonderful place to be.

Beautiful place without a doubt, great location and it could be one of the best around. Service.... terrible, inn keepers missing in action, breakfast is better at McDonalds, no need to sleep at night... a huge humming, tractor engine like noise will make sure you don't. We stayed there for one night and run away. Again beautiful place but no attention to detail... simple things like your toilet running all night long, or a TV so small that wasn't even worth turning it on.

My parents could not sleep due to a humming noise all night long, while we had to deal with the running toilet. Then before going to sleep I had to turn all the lights off... in hallways, empty rooms, living room etc. These people just don't know the meaning of "energy savings"

We never saw one person there to greet us or even ask if anything or everything was Ok.... of course not until they had to collect the $125/night rate. We had to called them for that... then shared the noise problem and the toilet situation... the lady did apologized -very briefly- but that's as far as that went. As an innkeeper she should have known better. You go to a place like this to rest! At least that was our goal. Obviously that was not the case here. Particularly with my parents who couldn't sleep all night with the noise. Almost $300 later (for 2 rooms), we felt frankly ripped off.

And did I mentioned my parents only view out of their room was insulation board from the under construction "monster" home? 5 feet or so away from the only window in your room?! Granted, it is out of their control but in fairness to THE PAYING GUEST they should have mentioned it.

Finally, the place lacks at least one courtesy bottle of water, my parents had a tiny 14" TV placed at an almost 90 degree angle from your bed.... no individual AC or heat control, four times I had to go out to the main hallway to turn the heat down... at $125/night !?!? You get a lot for at La Quinta.

Two words: STAY AWAY. These people only care about collecting the money, not your comfort, nor customer satisfaction.

Management response from bobbydon, Owner/Innkeeper
(Management representative)
Feb 13, 2008
Management Response: We sincerely apologized to this guest at checkout for humming noise and running toilet, all other items were never mentioned. We would have appreciated opportunity to investigate humming noise and fix running toilet at time instead of at checkout, all other comments/complaints made in public forum and not to us. We cannot fix what we do not know about. This is a well-maintained old Victorian structure, and some things do go wrong with it, but fix all when known. The Humming Noise: Innkeepers/Owner had air unit set on Heat at 65-67 degrees, based on 35 degree outside temp, setting confirmed at 10pm. Checked on guest’s father 9-10 pm to give small heater in case he got cold, indicated he was fine. Guest/reviewer admittedly adjusted temperature controls all thru night. Checked air unit and temp after guest’s departure, determined settings changed from Heat 65/67 degrees to A/C Cool 50/55 degrees, and heard low hum in said room, but definitely not tractor like; would not have prevented someone from sleeping. Hired A/C Heat service person: he determined that when an air handler is set to A/C 50-55 degrees in 35 degree cold weather it freezes unit, damages flywheel and produces a low hum. This is an isolated problem; we will put locks on all seven (7) a/c heat controls to maintain guests comfort.
Running Toilet: Apologized to guest and thanked him for telling us. Toilet fixed.
Missing in Action: Guest knew it would be a self check in that day. Most guests are personally checked in, except after hours, or when we have personal commitments. Personally checked on these guests, had breakfast cooked for them, and then saw them at checkout. We are a semi-monitored Inn, guests know we live on site, can reach us by intercom, business line, and two cell numbers.
Lights in Inn: We leave lights on for safety of all guests. We conserve in many areas in order to run an efficient profitable business, as long as it does not sacrifice comfort and safety of guests.
Bottled Water: Good suggestions, now offer bottled water on first night of stay.
TV too Small: Yes, the TV in said room was small. In process of changing all TV’s to flat screen LCD’s.
Ripped Off and Only Interested in Collecting Money: We do not rip anyone off! To the contrary, all of our rooms are reasonably priced. No apology made for taking care of business. We gave this guest a $40 discount off one room.
Breakfast: Our breakfast was fresh and plentiful on said morning, offered 3 types of breakfast breads, 3 types of cereal, oatmeal, Danishes, coffee cake, muffins, freshly sliced fruit, bananas, yogurt, waffle, Cajun scrambled eggs w/ sausage, and biscuits and gravy. Also, coffee, juice, teas, and milk. Breakfast menu spelled out on website and in confirmation.
For anyone who reads both reviews it will be quite obvious that the negative review should not have been posted by guest. We have been a family run business for 21 years, are well-maintained, and are constantly updating. We have a beautiful Inn and a 99% satisfaction rate and high return guest rate, we get rave comments from our guests every week with emails to back it up.

We recently stayed one night in the Galveston room. The room and bathroom were a bit small but very clean. The bed was comfortable. We had the Sat breakfast which consisted of homemade waffles, biscuits, scrambled eggs with sausage, pastries, orange juice, coffee, cereal and fruit. The lady serving the breakfast was very friendly and made us feel like we were eating breakfast in our Grandma's kitchen.

The neighborhood is nice and quiet.

We stayed at Sara's B & B from 5th to 9th April.
The house was lovely, very clean and full of interesting furniture, mostly antiques. It is an old house, which has been beautifully maintained.
The rooms were good, each individually furnished (we had the San Antonio & our friends had the Galveston room). The breakfasts were excellent, with plenty of fruit , as well as a variety of cakes, muffins & waffles. The Saturday & Sunday breakfasts were especially good!
The hosts, Connie & Bob, could not have been more helpful & pleasant, but not intrusive.
The area is quiet and safe, but you do need to drive to restaurants etc, as there is not much within walking distance. If you are used to large hotels with everything to hand, you will be disappointed, but if you want to stay somewhere different, with excellent southern hospitality, go for this one!

  • Liked — The house, area & hosts
  • Disliked — No restaurants, bars etc within walking distance

We spent 3 days here the second week of January and had a great time. We had the San Antonio Room and our friend had the Dallas. Both rooms are beautiful and the location in the Heights couldn't be better. I can see that this would be a great place for business travelers with WIFI in the rooms. Bob and Connie are wonderful hosts, friendly but never intrusive. The breakfast was a self serve continental buffet and there always was plenty of fresh fruit both whole and cut up.

I would love to stay here again if I come to Houston.
