“Wonderful Hostel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

I stay in a lot of hostels. This one was by far one of the best. It looks like an old manor house and once inside it is clean and open. The rooms are small, so you don't have to share with many people and there is a big bathroom in each hallway. Our room had a little balcony that looked over the pool, and even in winter we sat out there in the sun. The staff are super helpful and breakfast is included. Loved it.
Only con, was that there was no lift, so carrying a 30kg bag up a flight of stairs was not fun.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony :)

I successfully booked a private room via Hostelbookers.com, only to receive an email of apology from the hostel stating that an error had been made, did I want to change to a 4-person room with a private bath? I agreed to do so; but the "bath" is only a toilet, since the shower is permanently out-of-service. The hostel is nicely air-conditioned, which is great in the heat of summer - except that (bed)rooms 5 and 6 have had circulation problems for years, and the a/c is pretty ineffective. We have to keep a fan on to stay cool at night. Couple of other small complaints - the shower room that is earmarked for rooms 5 and 6 is absolutely freezing; and the tv room is not at all cozy - it's set up like an airport waiting room. The hostelkeepers should visit Australian hostels to see how they do everything right. Also, mattresses are too soft, dividing walls too flimsy to keep out much noise.

Breakfast is cereal, toast, scones, and jam. It's fine. The common areas (besides the tv room) are also nicely arranged. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Room 5, for all its faults, has a private balcony.... And only 4 beds.

This place could not have been better. It had everything. Good food, good clean rooms, good garden and pool area. The staff were brilliant. There was a young girl, called DIANE who was very helpful and didn't let us miss out on anything during our stay. Diane showed us the easiest and quickest ways to get around and told us about the nicest resterauntes. She was 10/10

Overall one of the best hostels we have ever stays in! Brilliant! Defiantly recommend! Would love to go back next year

It was the best hostel I stayed in and everyone that worked there was really nice and friendly. It has a great location, prices are great if you plan on staying multiply nights. I stayed in an 6 bed female dorm that had a bathroom attached which was great. They also show you what is going on that week so you can plan on having a little fun while down visiting Houston.. It was clean, quiet and very nice

Great hostel close to the city. It's clean it's friendly, it's awesome! Loved the outdoor balcony overlooking the pool, our group had a few quiet drinks on a balmy night looking out to the skyline.

I managed to go for a jog one morning and it's in a nice area, and came back for a dip in the pool which is a real bonus! Highly recommend!

I stayed here for one night. Not too far from the city centre, plus they give you directions (printed or verbal) to get the bus to pretty much anywhere in town. There is a supermarket two blocks away, and loads of places to eat nearby too. I stayed in an 8 bed female dorm. It had a bathroom attached, which was super convenient. The breakfast is good, the people are friendly and the hostel is clean and quiet. I would definitely recommend this hostel - the nicest I've ever been to!
